About UNMASKED: A Dance-Theatre Epic
This production is a large-scale ensemble performance requiring a professional stage setup, a high-quality audio system for complex voiceovers, and specific lighting design to execute the narrative choreography effectively.
UNMASKED: When Ravana Walked the Earth is a narrative-driven performance that questions traditional definitions of good and evil by reimagining characters from the Ramayana. Working with the Jyotsna Shourie Dance Company, we combine the rhythmic footwork of Bharatanatyam with the fluid, expressive nature of contemporary dance to create a theatrical experience that resonates with 21st-century viewers.
The show features an ensemble of 3 to 5 dancers and uses thematic elements like masks, large silks, and precise stage lighting to build the world of Lanka. Because this is a theatre-scale production, it is designed for venues equipped with professional sound systems and adequate stage depth. We provide a detailed lighting cue sheet for venue teams, and I work closely with the cast to ensure the performance maintains the high energy required for this complex choreography. Whether for a cultural festival or a large-scale corporate event, this piece bridges the gap between classical heritage and modern storytelling.
