Why I Dance
For me, dance goes way beyond just steps and music. It's like a journey towards something deeper, something that connects me back to who I really am. There’s an old Kannada line I hold close: "Kelavam ballavarinda kaltu... kelavam sajjana sangadinda... paluvam palla samudravai" (We learn from the wise, from good company, and from our own wisdom - just like many rivers join to become an ocean). That’s the spirit I bring to every performance.

I also cherish intimate performances - duets with my partner where we explore themes like Radha-Krishna, group Kathak stage productions, and solo acts where I dive deep into a single character’s emotions. Whether it’s Bharatanatyam group performances or a simple abhinaya piece, it’s all about honest expression.

My Story
We’re Abhinava Dance Company. Thirty years, and still, every step feels new. Our journey started with our Gurus, Maya Rao and Kumudini Lakhia – their words and passion, always with us. Family, friends, our art circle – couldn’t have done it without them. Dance is spiritual for us. Moments at Mantralaya, Belur Math, tears and bliss – all that gets poured into our art. When we dance, it’s like living those stories, feeling every emotion.
