Choosing between a solo performance and a duet often comes down to the specific narrative arc you wish to convey. While a solo allows for an immersive exploration of Abhinaya (expression) and character detail, a duet utilizes the dynamic energy between two dancers to create a rhythmic dialogue. My choreography focuses on original musical scores and customized movement scripts tailored specifically to the emotional gravity of your chosen theme.
When I work on a solo performance, the process is deeply introspective. It is not merely about executing steps; it is about inhabiting the character, using the subtle nuances of Abhinaya to let the audience see the world through the eyes of figures like the Ashtanayikas. Whether we are exploring the longing of a heroine or the philosophical depth of an epic, the goal is to make the audience forget the dancer and see only the emotion.
For duets, the dynamic changes entirely. Rajendra and I often use our years of partnership to create a sense of equilibrium on stage. We focus on the interplay of Kathak and Bharathanatyam, ensuring the choreography flows seamlessly between athletic footwork and delicate storytelling.
Our approach begins with a consultation to determine the thematic focus—whether mythological, abstract, or purely aesthetic. We then move into:
- Research & Lyrics: Collaborating with scholars to select authentic Sanskrit or Kannada verses.
- Music Production: Composing original tracks that support the narrative rhythm.
- Movement Vocabulary: Integrating our signature 'Desi Marga Adavu' to blend traditional roots with contemporary clarity.
- Technical Polish: Finalizing lighting cues and costume aesthetics that enhance the visual narrative.
