About 'Quest': A Theatrical Dance Production
Getting back into the studio for Quest was not just about dance, it was about stripping away the comfort of the choreographer's chair. You will see that reflected in the movement, it is unpolished, real, and relies heavily on the synergy between Jayashree's Kathak roots and my contemporary vocabulary.
Quest was a deeply personal return to performing for me. After years spent directing fashion shows and massive corporate spectacles, I wanted to explore a project that focused purely on narrative and raw human experience. Collaborating with Jayashree Acharya, we looked for stories often overlooked in our daily rush, focusing on themes of courage and survival.
Technically, this was an interesting challenge. We fused the rhythmic precision of Kathak with the fluid, often unpredictable nature of contemporary dance. There are no hook steps here. Instead, we used expressive hand gestures and shadow play at the Stein Auditorium to create a performance that felt intimate rather than commercial. The production relied on minimal set design, allowing the dancers' body language to drive the plot entirely.
If you are looking for this kind of movement direction for a theatre piece or a brand event, this project serves as a clear example of my approach. I do not just teach steps. I work to build a movement vocabulary that matches the emotional weight of your production, whether it is a small-scale theatrical piece or a massive stadium show.
