My Approach to Dance
For me, dance goes way beyond steps - it's a way to touch something deeper inside. When I choreograph, I try to mix music, literature, and movement to spark Rasa (aesthetic delight). I want my work to bring people together, inspire, and maybe even give a sense of strength.
Storytelling on Stage
I love bringing stories alive. My main focus is on grand, theatrical productions - like Broadway but with an Indian heart. Indian epics and myths are my playground. Productions such as 'Rama Katha Vismaya' and 'Krishnaa - Fire to Frost' are all about big visuals, detailed dance, and original music. It’s always an effort to make the experience memorable and meaningful.

I strongly believe in learning from others - “Kelavam ballavarinda kaltu... kelavam sajjana sangadinda...” (Learn from the wise, grow with good company). My work is shaped by ongoing teamwork with musicians, scholars, and designers. It's always a group effort.

Kathak and Bharathanatyam form the foundation of my style, but I also experiment. My ‘Desi Marga Adavu’ blends old and new - classical roots with creative movement, all to make each story clear and moving.

My Story
We’re Abhinava Dance Company. Thirty years, and still, every step feels new. Our journey started with our Gurus, Maya Rao and Kumudini Lakhia – their words and passion, always with us. Family, friends, our art circle – couldn’t have done it without them. Dance is spiritual for us. Moments at Mantralaya, Belur Math, tears and bliss – all that gets poured into our art. When we dance, it’s like living those stories, feeling every emotion.
