About A Legacy of Art: Awards & Recognition
While these accolades are truly humbling, they are simply milestones in a lifelong devotion to Kathak and Bharathanatyam. Every award, whether it is the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar or a local recognition, reinforces our commitment to bringing Indian epics and culture to global stages with authenticity and grace.
Our artistic path has been a beautiful confluence of tradition and innovation. Receiving the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar—the nation's highest honor for performing arts—from the President of India was a profound milestone. Yet, for us, every recognition carries the same weight: a gentle reminder of the responsibility we hold to preserve our cultural heritage.
Milestones in Our Journey
Beyond national honors like the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar, we are grateful for local and community recognitions that keep us connected to our roots:
- Narthaka 2025 Award: A meaningful recognition from the Natyanjali Trust in Chennai, celebrating decades of contribution to Kathak.
- Devi Award: Received from The New Indian Express, highlighting our dedication to storytelling through the lens of the divine feminine.
- Shivarathri Kala Puraskar: Bestowed by the Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan Foundation, this honor allowed us to share space with legendary figures like Dr. L. Subramaniam.
- Vedic Wellness University Fellowship: A humbling recognition of our commitment to dance as a tool for wellness and cultural preservation.
More Than Performance
These awards are not just trophies for our shelf. They represent the hundreds of students trained, the thousands of concerts performed across five continents, and the persistent effort to evolve our craft. Whether we are researching new vocabularies like 'Desi Marga Aduvu' or reviving ancient festivals like 'Madanotsava', our goal remains the same: to ensure that the art we inherited from our Gurus continues to thrive, resonate, and inspire new generations.
