These honours represent more than personal milestones. They are reminders of the path I have walked, the teachers who guided me, and the community of rasikas I am grateful to serve.

About Awards & Recognition

Receiving the Nrithya Choodamani from the Krishna Gana Sabha in Chennai was a profound moment, not just for the title, but for the recognition of my specific approach to dance. It serves as validation for my belief that Bharatanatyam must balance deep tradition with a forward-looking, democratic vision that embraces research and outreach.

The Nrithya Choodamani title, conferred upon me at the 68th Margazhi Mela, sits close to my heart. It is a recognition from an institution I have admired for years, a place where art is both celebrated and protected. For me, these awards are never just about personal achievement. They are reflections of a life spent in pursuit of abhinaya (expression) and the relentless study of raga and tala. Whether I am conducting a lecture-demonstration or presenting a solo performance, my goal remains the same: to ensure that the beauty of our classical tradition is accessible, understandable, and deeply felt by everyone, from seasoned connoisseurs to absolute beginners. My work through Natya Vriksha, from our rigorous masterclasses to our community-focused festivals, is built on the same principles that led to these recognitions. I am constantly exploring how to bridge the gap between ancient theory and the modern world, making our dance form speak a language that resonates today. When I accept an award, I see it as an encouragement to push these boundaries further, to continue my mentorship of the next generation, and to deepen the research that defines my dance company. Every citation, every medallion, and every handshake on stage is a reminder to keep the fire of our culture burning bright.
