Exploring Yoga Poses, Props, and Philosophy
A look into my personal practice where ancient wisdom meets modern movement. See how I use props like the yoga wheel and magic circle to find steadiness and ease in every pose.
This is what it means to find strength in surrender. Using the yoga wheel, I can deepen my backbend, opening the heart and building spinal flexibility. This pose, Chakrasana or Wheel Pose, is a powerful expression of energy, and the prop provides the support needed to explore it safely.
This side-lying stretch is a beautiful way to release tension along the side of the body and hips. It is a mindful, steady movement that prepares the body and mind for the week ahead. This is an example of finding comfort and stability, or 'Sthira Sukham Asanam', in a posture.
Here I am using the wall for a supported low lunge variation, allowing for a deep stretch in the hip flexors and quadriceps. The wall provides stability, so I can focus on my breath and the release in my body. Stillness itself brings the best fortune.
The yoga wheel is a versatile prop for both strengthening and stretching. In this pose, I am using it to support my lower back while opening my hips and hamstrings. It allows for a deeper, more restorative stretch than what might be possible on the mat alone.
The Pilates Magic Circle is a classic tool for adding resistance and feedback. In this video, I demonstrate a seated workout using the circle for a front squeeze, overhead press, and thigh press. These simple moves effectively tone the upper body and inner thighs.
This advanced inversion requires significant core strength, balance, and flexibility. It is a deep stretch for the entire spine and hamstrings. This posture represents the culmination of dedicated practice, where strength and softness meet.
After a run, a mindful stretch is essential. Here, I am using the wall to support a deep side bend, releasing the muscles of my back and legs. This is how I integrate mindfulness into every form of movement, connecting the rush of cardio with the stillness of a stretch.
About this collection
The yoga wheel isn't just a prop for backbends, it is a tool that helps me open the spine safely while building deep flexibility. When I use it in my classes, I often see students who struggle with standard floor poses suddenly find the range of motion they thought was impossible. It transforms a deep stretch into something accessible, allowing you to focus on your breath rather than your limitations.
My approach is built on 'Sthira Sukham Asanam,' which means a posture should be both steady and comfortable. For many, yoga has become a performance of flexibility, but in my studio in DLF Phase 4, we prioritize the foundation.
Why I Use Props
Props are not cheats, they are bridges.
- The Yoga Wheel: I use this for spinal decompression and to support backbends that might otherwise strain the lower back. It provides a stable surface that allows you to deepen the stretch without fear.
- The Pilates Magic Circle: This is my go-to for adding resistance and feedback. It forces you to engage the deep core muscles that often get missed in standard mat workouts.
- The Wall: A simple, underrated prop. I use the wall for supported lunges and stretches, which helps beginners establish proper alignment without balancing issues.
The Philosophy of Practice
Yoga is not just about the body. It is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self. When you see me in these photos, you are seeing a practice that has evolved over 17 years. It is about consistency. It is about 'Tapas,' or the inner fire of discipline. Even on days when you feel stiff or tired, showing up on the mat is the practice.
Whether you are a beginner or someone looking to refine their form, my sessions focus on these transitions. We don't just do yoga, we live it. Come prepared to breathe, to slow down, and to find that stillness you rarely get elsewhere.
