About Our Artists: Masters of Rhythm

When you hire us, you are not just booking individual drummers, but a cohesive unit that trains together as a family. Every artist you see here, whether on the Chenda or Ilathalam, has come through our rigorous internal training. This ensures that the tempo remains rock-solid and the energy, our simha garjjanam, stays consistent, whether we have a compact team of 7 or a grand ensemble of 50 on stage.

At Kalavadhyam, we view every performance as an extension of our academy, the Kalavadhyam Gurukulam. Our artists are trained in the classic kshethra (temple) style, where precision is not just expected, but required. It starts with our Pramani (leader), typically our guru Shri Kalavadhyam Dheeraj Edat, who maintains the structural integrity of the rhythm cycle. Whether we are performing Panchari Melam or the more complex Panchavadhyam, the synchronicity is the result of years of practice, not just rehearsals before a gig.

Our crew includes specialists in Uruttu Chenda for the intricate treble patterns and Valamthala Chenda for the bass, all anchored by the Ilathalam rhythm section. We emphasize that every beat is an act of devotion. This is why we are trusted for everything from intimate Arangettam ceremonies in Bangalore to massive temple festivals across Karnataka. We take pride in our inclusive approach, training students from age 7 and supporting women artists who now stand as equal masters on stage. When you bring us into your event, you are getting more than a band, you are getting a dedicated team that treats your celebration as our own.
