About Hands-On with Clay

Unlike structured art classes where the focus is on a perfect finished product, these sessions are all about the process. We use terracotta clay to help kids explore textures, shapes, and their own creativity. Whether it’s pinching, coiling, or smoothing the clay, every movement helps build fine motor skills and patience, leaving children with a sense of pride in what they have crafted with their own hands.

Why Clay Modelling Matters

There is a grounding energy in working with real terracotta clay that digital screens just cannot replicate. My clay workshops are designed with my child psychology background in mind. We focus on sensory play, which helps children regulate their attention and develop essential fine motor skills. When a child is deep in concentration, moulding a creature or a bowl, they are actually practicing focus, patience, and spatial awareness.

What Happens in a Session

Each workshop is a mix of guided technique and free exploration. We start with basics—coiling, pinching, and sculpting—and then let the kids run with their own ideas. It is not about making 'perfect' art. If a child wants to turn their clay into a monster, a turtle, or a simple pot, that is encouraged. My goal is to help them turn their imagination into a 3D reality, building confidence with every piece they complete.

I am Sharvari, a child psychology counsellor and art educator. I founded Kalarang Club to give kids a space where they don't just 'do art,' but express themselves freely. Watching children find their calm and confidence through clay modelling is exactly why I do what I do.
