Made with Love: The Women of JhaJi
Every jar you open is a story of empowerment from our Darbhanga kitchen. Meet the hands behind the authentic Mithila flavors you love.
This is the power of women supporting women. When I believed in Poonam, she became an integral part of our JhaJi Store. Together, we all rise.
This Women's Day, we celebrate stories like Poonam's. Her journey from seeking a job to leading our production unit is an inspiration and the reason why I started JhaJi Store.
From our small backyard to your homes across the country, our journey has been incredible. Today, over 70 women work tirelessly at our kitchen, crafting each pickle jar with love and devotion.
I was a housewife who always had a dream of doing something for myself. With the praise I received for my pickles, I started JhaJi store to take the taste of Mithila to a global platform.
My vision is for every home to have a small business. I believe every woman has a skill, and if she perfects it, she can create a number one product that people will appreciate and buy.
After 30 years of managing my home, becoming an entrepreneur was a new beginning. My mission has always been to take Mithila's authentic taste to the world and create employment in Darbhanga.
About this collection
When you choose a JhaJi jar, you aren't just getting pickles; you're supporting the livelihood of over 70 women in Darbhanga who handcraft each batch. Most of them were homemakers who, like me, found a way to share their talent with the world. Every label you see is signed by the woman who prepared that specific batch, so you know exactly who crafted the taste of home you are about to enjoy.
Our kitchen, 'Annapoorna', is more than a production unit. It is a space where tradition meets modern enterprise. When we started in our backyard, the goal was simple: bring the swaad of Mithila to every home that misses it. Today, that small effort has grown into a collective of over 70 women who were once focused solely on managing their households but are now entrepreneurs in their own right.
We strictly follow the old silbatta (stone grinder) techniques. We don't use heavy machinery that strips the texture of the vegetables. Whether it is our Kathal pickle or our signature tomato garlic chutney, the process involves traditional sun-drying and manual spice blending, just like our nani-dadi taught us.
By bringing this work to Darbhanga, we are ensuring that local skills are preserved and rewarded. These women are now supporting their children's education and building their own financial independence. When you taste our pickles, you are tasting the labor, patience, and pride of the women of Mithila.
