The Story Behind Our Authentic Mithila Flavours
Step inside our journey from the fields of Bihar to your kitchen. See how we keep our traditional roots alive with every batch we prepare.
Join us as we visit Rajesh Kumar Ji’s farm in Barma village, Bihar. This journey captures the essence of rural life, from meeting his warm family to exploring the lush fields.
A farm visit feels like going back to our roots. One of the highlights of our visit to Rajesh Kumar Ji's farm was preparing traditional Litti Chokha right there in the open.
What makes our Makhana Kheer so special? It starts with farm-fresh milk, poured into a mitti handi, ready to be slow-cooked over a chulha. This is tradition in a pot.
Here you can see our kheer mix being added to the pot. It is slow-cooked to develop its signature earthy aroma, just like it has been made for generations.
The slow cooking process allows the makhana to soak in all the flavors, giving our kheer its signature thick and creamy texture.
A final touch of sweetness. The kheer is garnished with a sprinkle of nuts from our special sachet, making this dessert a true labor of love.
Every bite of this Makhana Kheer tells a story of tradition, love, and farm-fresh ingredients. This is the authentic taste we bring to you in our instant mix.
About this collection
We do not use industrial machines for our pickles or dessert mixes. Every batch is slow-cooked in a mitti handi (clay pot) over a traditional chulha by the women of our community in Darbhanga, ensuring that earthy, authentic aroma that modern processing just cannot replicate.
From Farm to Table
Our process starts long before the cooking begins. We frequently travel to farms, like the one belonging to Rajesh Kumar in Barma village, to connect with the source of our ingredients. This ensures that what reaches your plate is not just food, but a reflection of rural life in Bihar. We believe that real taste comes from nature's rhythm, not from a laboratory.
The Art of Handcrafted Tradition
When you see us working in our kitchen, you will notice we stick to old-school methods. Our spices and ingredients are often prepared using a silbatta (traditional grinding stone), which maintains the texture and oils that mechanical grinding destroys. Whether it is our sun-dried pickles or our Makhana Kheer mix, the focus is on preserving the integrity of the produce.
Empowering the Women of Mithila
JhaJi Store is more than a brand; it is a collective. Our journey is powered by over 70 women from local villages. By using family recipes passed down from nani-dadi, they are not just making pickles; they are preserving a heritage. Every jar you purchase supports their independence and keeps the culinary traditions of Mithila alive. When you cook our kheer, you are participating in a story that spans across villages and generations.
JhaJi
We are the team behind JhaJi Store, a collective of women in Darbhanga keeping the recipes of our nani-dadi alive. We bring you the taste of Mithila through handmade pickles and dessert mixes that are as close to home as it gets.
