Authentic Mithila Pickles and Chutneys
Namaste Ji. We bring the traditional taste of our Mithila kitchen to your table. Every pickle and chutney is handmade by local women using recipes passed down from our nani and dadi.
This is more than just a chutney, it's a 25-year-old memory in a jar. Each spoonful is packed with a chunky, spicy, and tangy flavor, a signature taste my sister Ranjana perfected over the years. We slow cook it in small batches to bring you this authentic Bihari tamatar chutney.
This is my story. It started in my home kitchen in Darbhanga with a dream to share the taste of Mithila with every Bihari living away from home. Today, with the help of more than 70 women from our villages, we make over 1 lakh kilos of achar every year, sending a taste of home to over 250,000 families.
Namaste Ji. I want to personally introduce you to our special tomato chutney. This is a recipe from my maayka (mother's home) that we have been enjoying for years. This first batch is made with five simple ingredients: fresh tomatoes, garlic, green chili, ginger, and curry leaves, giving it a beautiful color and a delicious, homemade swaad.
We believe in the wisdom of our nani-dadi's kitchen. Our ingredients are simple and natural, things you can easily recognize like Kairi (raw mango), Sarson tel (mustard oil), and Jeera (cumin). We don't use anything you can't pronounce because we believe that real, traditional taste comes from real ingredients.
As we grow, our batches may get bigger, but our process remains the same. Every jar is a result of traditional Bihari craft, prepared by the skilled hands of the women of Mithilanchal. We have not automated the flavor, just organized our prep to bring you the same authentic, handmade taste.
Whether it's Saturday's khichdi or Sunday's parathe, a meal feels incomplete without a spoonful of achar. Our pickles, made with sun-dried ingredients and pure mustard oil, bring back memories of home. From Kathal to Lal Mirch, each flavor is made to complete your thali.
We recently got a chance to share our pickles at the Bihar Utsav in Delhi. The reactions we received were so heartwarming. People told us our achar tasted just like the one their mother makes at home, pure and authentic. It is this love that keeps us going.
Do you remember the simple joys of childhood? Helping dadi move mango trays during the first rain or sneaking a piece of achar from the barni (jar). These small moments are the memories we cherish. Our pickles are an attempt to bring back that same simple, priceless taste of home.
About Featured
When you open a jar from us, you will see a top layer of raw mustard oil. This is not just oil, but our traditional preservation method that keeps the ingredients fresh for months without any chemical additives. It means our pickles need to be kept upright, but it also guarantees that every spoonful carries the bold, pungent taste of real Kachi Ghani mustard oil, just like our mothers made in Darbhanga.
From Our Home to Yours
Our journey started in a small kitchen in Darbhanga. We realized that for many of us living away from home, finding that specific, honest taste of Bihar was difficult. Everything is made in small, seasonal batches. We don't use machinery to grind spices or paste our vegetables; instead, we rely on the traditional silbatta style to keep the texture chunky and authentic.
Why Our Process is Different
- Sun-Dried Goodness: Our vegetables, be it Kathal (jackfruit) or Aam (mango), are dried naturally under the sun to remove moisture, which is the secret to our long shelf life without preservatives.
- Small Batches: We are growing, but we have not automated the flavor. Every jar is packed by hand by the 70+ women from our villages whom we work with.
- Natural Ingredients: You will only find ingredients you can pronounce: fresh raw mangoes, garlic, ginger, green chilies, curry leaves, salt, and pure mustard oil.
