Explore a lifetime of dance, from rigorous Kalakshetra training to innovative multimedia productions. Witness how tradition breathes through every performance.

This is a moment from my production 'Antariksha Sanchar', a science-fiction dance opera. Here, my students and I perform against a backdrop of stunning visuals, blending the timeless storytelling of Bharatanatyam with new media art to create a unique theatrical experience.

A glimpse into the energy and discipline of my Bharatanatyam classes at Triveni Kala Sangam. Here, my younger students practice their movements, focusing on the precision of posture and rhythm that forms the foundation of this classical dance form.

I feel immense pride watching my disciple, Sudipta Chakraborty, perform at the India International Centre. This image captures the grace and confidence that comes from years of dedicated practice and a deep understanding of the Kalakshetra style.

A moment of profound gratitude, receiving the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi award from the Honourable President of India. This recognition is a tribute to my gurus and the rich cultural heritage of our country.

Art has no borders. This was a joyful moment from a collaborative workshop with the Embassy of Colombia and the talented salsa group 'Ensalsate', where we explored the beautiful fusion of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Chhau with salsa.

Nattuvangam is the soul of a Bharatanatyam recital, where I conduct the rhythm and music for the dancer. Even when I am not dancing myself, every beat and expression is a dance of the spirit, as seen here during my disciple's Arangetram.

This is a cherished memory from my Arangetram in 1970 with my beloved guru, Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale. Her blessings and teachings at Kalakshetra are the foundation upon which my entire life in dance has been built.

'Hastha Prayogaah' is one of the instructional books I have authored to help students understand the vocabulary of hand gestures in Bharatanatyam. My aim is to provide clear, accessible resources for dancers on their learning journey.

About Featured

My work is rooted in the strict Guru-Shishya parampara of Kalakshetra, but it is never static. Whether I am teaching basic Adavus at Triveni Kala Sangam or directing a science-fiction dance opera, the foundation remains the same: a deep, disciplined respect for our classical vocabulary.

The Foundation of My Practice

Bharatanatyam is not just movement to me; it is a way of living. My approach is defined by the discipline I learned from my guru, Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale. In my studio, we prioritize the basics—posture, hand gestures (Mudras), and rhythmic footwork (Adavus). We do not rush the process. Whether you are a beginner or a senior student, the focus is on understanding the 'why' behind every motion.

Bridging Tradition and Technology

While my heart beats for the classical form, I believe in exploring how our heritage speaks to the future. This cluster showcases how I blend traditional storytelling with modern tools. You will see my students performing in traditional Arangetrams, but you will also see our collaborative productions where we incorporate AI and new media. This is an attempt to make our ancient stories accessible and engaging to modern audiences without diluting their essence.

Learning with Me

If you join my classes at Triveni Kala Sangam, expect a space of mutual respect and rigorous learning. I believe dance is a shared journey. We work on the complete grammar of the art form, including theory and rhythm cycles (Talam). My aim is to help you find your own voice within the strict, beautiful framework of our tradition. If you are looking for a place where discipline meets creative exploration, you have found the right home.
