About Choreography & Dance Production
My Dance, My Story
For me, choreography isn’t just about steps or costumes - it’s about building a world on stage. I love finding ways to bring stories alive, whether it’s a tale from our mythology or a wild idea set in the future. Sometimes it’s weaving together saree traditions, sometimes it’s creating a sci-fi world with electronic music, or even showing a devotee’s journey through centuries-old songs.
Bringing Ideas to Life
- I direct and shape full productions, from the central theme down to the tiniest gesture.
- My work often mixes Bharatanatyam with other Indian forms, digital art, and even animation.
- Past projects range from tributes to Indian weavers, to a dance opera about flight, to spiritual journeys told through dance.
- I design for big stages too, like national events or special embassy functions, sometimes with 50+ dancers under one theme.
Dance Meets Tech
Honestly, I get a kick out of mixing old and new. I’ve worked on shows where live VFX and AI interact with dancers – like at the AWS AI Conclave, we created a dancer’s avatar live on stage. It’s not always perfect, but it’s exciting and opens up so many new ways to tell stories.
Grounded in Tradition
No matter how experimental things get, I never forget my roots. Everything I do stands on the strong foundation my gurus at Kalakshetra gave me. Every piece is my way of saying thanks to them.
If you’re after multimedia dance performances or want to explore fusion choreography projects, that’s my space.

My Story
Namaskar! I’m Jayalakshmi Eshwar. Born in Delhi, found my soul in Kalakshetra, Chennai. My guru, Attai, Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale, shaped everything I do – I dedicate every award to her and my parents. My dance has taken me everywhere, met so many lovely folks. My son, Avinash, adds magic with visuals to my shows. I love mixing old-school Bharatanatyam with new ideas. Away from the stage, you’ll find me chilling in Goa with my dog, just soaking it all in.
