About A Lifetime of Dedication: Awards & Felicitations
Receiving the Sangeet Natak Akademi award is not just a personal milestone, it is a validation of the rigorous Kalakshetra training I impart to my students today. When you step into my studio at Triveni Kala Sangam, you are not just learning steps. You are inheriting a classical tradition that has been refined over five decades. My students often find that the technical precision required for these stage performances is exactly what we practice together in our daily, disciplined sessions.
A Tradition of Excellence
My journey in Bharatanatyam is inseparable from the teachings of my mentor, Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale. Every award, whether it is the Sangeet Natak Akademi recognition or the Golden Ghungroo Award, serves as a humble tribute to the lineage I represent. These accolades are reflections of a constant pursuit of perfection in dance repertoire, rhythm, and expression.
Why Technique Matters
Many students ask me why I am so particular about the basics, like proper posture or the subtle angle of a Mudra. The answer is simple. A dancer who masters the fundamentals can express complex emotions with clarity. In my classes at Triveni Kala Sangam, we spend as much time on theory as we do on movement. We break down the grammar of the dance so that you understand not just how to move, but why you are moving in a particular way.
Bringing Art to Life
Beyond the studio, I believe in taking this art form to the community. Through lecture demonstrations at institutions like CCRT, I engage with audiences to decode the rich history of Indian classical dance. Whether it is a solo performance or a group choreography, my goal remains consistent: to preserve the purity of the Kalakshetra style while ensuring the art stays alive and relevant for the next generation of dancers.
