About Training on the Mats: Gi & No-Gi
When you join a session, expect a blend of high-intensity conditioning and technical drilling. We do not just roll; we break down every position—from guard passing to submission setups—so you build genuine muscle memory. Whether it is a 7:30 AM No-Gi class at Sai MMA or evening Gi sessions at The Dojo, the focus remains on consistency over quick fixes.
Training on the mats is about more than just a workout. It is about building a foundation of movement, control, and strategy. Whether you prefer the traditional Gi, which relies on grips and technical precision, or the wrestling-heavy world of No-Gi, my goal is to strip away the fluff. You will not find fancy theories here. You will find drilling, positional sparring, and the grind of live rolling.
At Sai MMA on Hosa Road and The Dojo in HSR Layout, classes follow a structured path. We start with conditioning—movements like shrimping or bear crawls—to get the body ready. Then, we move to technique. This is where we break down specific submissions, guard passes, and sweeps. You might learn the mechanics of a Bow and Arrow choke or how to execute a Matador sweep. We emphasize safety, especially for beginners who are just learning to move correctly.
The final part is live sparring, where you apply what you have learned. It is controlled, technical resistance training. If you are training for a tournament, you will have access to dedicated competition squads with extended rounds to simulate match intensity. This is where the real growth happens. We keep the environment focused. Our mats are 1-inch EVA foam, and the setting is garage-style and ventilated. It is simple, effective, and built for sweat. Avvalothan.

I am Babu, and I believe the only shortcut to becoming better on the mats is showing up. I have transitioned from mechanical engineering to full-time coaching, and I run my classes the same way I compete: with discipline, sweat, and no gimmicks.
