Iyengar Yoga Workshops & Community Sessions
Go beyond the standard mat practice. Our workshops and intensive courses are spaces to examine the 'why' behind the movement, connect with fellow practitioners, and deepen your understanding of Iyengar Yoga.
The wonderful group from my four-day workshop in Bogota, Colombia. It is a privilege to travel and share this practice, and the community we build together, whether near or far, is always a source of joy and inspiration.
A moment of hands-on adjustment during the Bogota workshop. I am helping a student find more rotation and extension in Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle Pose), using a block for support.
Partner work is a key element in my workshops. Here, one student helps another in Supta Padangusthasana, using a belt to gently increase the hamstring stretch while ensuring the pelvis remains stable. This fosters a sense of collaboration and shared learning.
Adjusting a student in a supine twisting pose. These workshops allow us the time and space to focus on individual needs and explore the subtleties of each asana in a supportive group environment.
Offering and receiving assistance humanizes the practice. This clip from my Bogota workshop shows how partner work not only gives technical insights but also fosters warmth and community in a practice that can often feel very introverted.
This is not just about stretching and flexibility. This poster announces a special session for International Yoga Day, inviting students to explore, experiment, and question the deeper aspects of the practice.
For International Yoga Day, we offered a free session for women moving through their 40s. This video gives a glimpse into the themes we explored, such as rethinking strength and adapting the practice for hormonal health.
An invitation to an exploration of 'strength' from the science and philosophy of yoga. My workshops aim to go beyond the physical, delving into the rich knowledge that the practice has to offer.
A special free session for women in their 40s. I offer targeted workshops that address the specific needs of different life stages, using the tools of Iyengar yoga for hormonal balance, strength, and well-being.
About Workshops, Courses & Community
In our workshops, we trade the solo, introverted nature of practice for shared inquiry. You will find that working with a partner or within a group setting, whether we are deconstructing a specific asana or exploring restorative techniques, often reveals alignment patterns that you simply cannot spot on your own. It turns the practice into a collaborative science.
Why Step Outside the Weekly Routine?
While our weekly batches provide the consistency needed for progress, workshops allow us the time and space to peel back the layers of a single topic. We treat these sessions like a laboratory. If we are exploring women's health or backbends, we don't just move; we deconstruct the anatomical requirements, discuss the philosophical context, and test how specific props can change our relationship with the pose.
The Role of Community
Iyengar Yoga can feel solitary. However, the presence of others in a room creates a unique energy that solo practice cannot replicate. When you work with a partner, you receive immediate, tactile feedback that you cannot generate alone. You might realize, for instance, that your shoulder blade is not rotating because your ribs are flaring, or that your hips are uneven in a way you were blind to. These sessions are about breaking that blindness.
What We Explore
Our workshops range from therapeutic deep dives to intensive technique drills. We frequently host sessions on:
- Therapeutic Applications: Using props to manage specific pain points like wrists, shoulders, and lower back tension.
- The Science of Strength: Rethinking how we approach traditional movements like push-ups through an Iyengar lens.
- Women’s Health: Tailored practice for hormonal balance and navigating life transitions, including the 40s and beyond.
- Advanced Asana Prep: Deconstructing headstands, shoulderstands, and backbends to make them sustainable for years, not just days.
Whether you are a local student in Bangalore or visiting for a retreat, these gatherings are designed to be practical. You leave with a notebook full of technical observations and a clearer understanding of your own body's mechanics.
The Practice Room
We started The Practice Room to keep the spirit of the Gurukul tradition alive, where the teacher actually knows who you are and where you’ve been. Our sessions aren't about mindless repetitions. They are conversations about the body’s intelligence, whether we are in a studio in Bangalore or teaching halfway across the world.
