Grappling & Groundwork Training in HSR Layout
Master wrestling takedowns and No-Gi BJJ submissions in a focused, no-nonsense environment. Learn to control the ground.
This session highlights various aspects of our MMA training, from ground-and-pound drills on a bag to executing takedowns and working from a grounded position.
Movement is fundamental to grappling. This video shows our students practicing wrestling-inspired mobility drills like animal walks and bridges to build core strength and agility.
About Grappling & Groundwork
Grappling isn't about looking good, it's about position and control. On our 25mm EVA foam mats, we focus exclusively on No-Gi training because it translates directly to real-world scenarios where clothes or traditional uniforms aren't involved. You learn to use weight distribution, not brute strength, to immobilize an opponent. It feels different when you're actually on the mat, so be ready to get uncomfortable.
Why No-Gi Matters
We strip away the Gi and the fancy belts to focus on what works under pressure. Our grappling system is a hybrid of wrestling-based takedowns and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) submissions. Without the friction of a uniform, you are forced to rely on proper leverage, underhooks, and tight positioning. This is the foundation of effective MMA ground control.
The Training Flow
- Mobility & Warm-ups: We start with animal walks, bridges, and technical stand-ups. This builds the core strength and agility needed to move freely on the ground.
- Drilling: We break down movements into repeatable segments. Whether it is a double-leg takedown or a rear-naked choke, you drill it until the movement is instinctual.
- Positional Sparring: We put you in specific disadvantageous positions to see if you can escape or defend. This builds the mental toughness required to stay calm when you are tired.
Conditioning for the Ground
Ground fighting drains your cardio faster than striking. We incorporate kettlebells and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to ensure your tank doesn't run empty during a scramble. If you cannot maintain your position because you are out of breath, the technique does not matter. We build the engine to keep you fighting.
Preparing for Class
Our sessions are intense and barefoot, conducted on interlocking mats. You will need a mouthguard and shinguards for Saturday sparring. Bring a change of clothes—you will be sweating, and we don't use AC, just fans and hard work.
