Our 'Back to Basics' session is perfect for anyone new to running. We focus on fundamental drills and movements to build confidence and proper technique from day one.
Every first Saturday of the month is our 'Back to Basics' session for beginners. We cover essential mobility stretches and foundational running drills.
About this collection
The biggest mistake most beginners make is trying to run too fast, too soon, which leads to burnout or injury. In these sessions, we shift focus away from pace and distance. I break down your gait, teach you how to activate the right muscles with resistance bands, and guide you through plyometrics that protect your joints. It is not about hitting a target time today, but about building a body that handles the miles for years to come.
When you are just starting out, the sheer amount of advice online can be overwhelming. You get conflicting tips on shoes, diet, and training intensity. My approach in the 'Back to Basics' sessions is to strip all that noise away.
We meet on the first Saturday of every month at locations like Agara Lake or near HSR Layout. These sessions are specifically designed to be safe and accessible. We do not just run laps; we work on the mechanics.
Here is what we cover:
- Gait Assessment: I watch how you move and help you correct your posture to reduce impact on your knees and ankles.
- Activation Drills: Most new runners have 'sleeping' glutes and core muscles. We use resistance bands to wake them up before you even start jogging.
- Mobility & Strength: Running is an athletic movement. We include basic bodyweight strength training to ensure you have the structural integrity to support your running goals, whether that is finishing your first 5K or just running without pain.
This is a low-pressure environment. We laugh, we sweat, and we support each other. You will find people from all walks of life, including our 'With Women We Run' crew, all aiming for the same thing: to move better. If you have been waiting for a sign to start, this is it.
