Building Strength & Flexibility: Creative Outdoor Yoga
Fitness is not just for the studio. My practice blends yoga and calisthenics in the fresh air, using park benches and monkey bars to build real, functional strength. Come as you are, and let’s explore what your body can do.
Working on my splits and forward fold on the parallel bars at an outdoor park. Using equipment like this helps deepen stretches and build functional strength.
Practicing Pincha Mayurasana, the forearm stand, in the park. This inversion builds shoulder and core strength while improving balance and focus.
Having some fun with Bakasana, or crow pose, on top of a slide. This arm balance requires significant core engagement, arm strength, and a bit of playful courage.
Deepening my Ustrasana, or camel pose, with support from park equipment. This is an advanced backbend that opens the entire front of the body and improves spinal flexibility.
A standing split variation using a pole at the park for support. This is an intense hamstring and hip flexor stretch that demonstrates advanced flexibility.
Holding a full split, or Hanumanasana, on a picnic table with a beautiful lake view. I love taking my practice outdoors and finding creative ways to stretch and move.
A middle split, or Samakonasana, on a park fence. This pose is a deep stretch for the inner thighs and requires consistent practice to achieve.
Holding a middle split on a pull up bar. This variation adds an element of upper body strength to the intense lower body stretch.
About My Practice: Strength & Flexibility
You will often find me using park benches, monkey bars, or even a playground slide to deepen my stretches and work on advanced inversions. I believe in turning any open space into a training ground. If you are bored with standard, repetitive gym routines and want to build functional strength and flexibility while enjoying the outdoors, we can definitely make that happen together.
My approach to strength and flexibility is rooted in the idea that you don't need fancy equipment to see progress. Whether we are working on Hanumanasana (splits) on a picnic table or practicing forearm stands (Pincha Mayurasana) on the grass, the goal is always the same: to listen to your body and find playfulness in every movement.
Why blend yoga and calisthenics?
Combining traditional asanas with bodyweight conditioning helps you develop better balance, focus, and raw strength. This hybrid style is perfect for anyone feeling stiff from a desk job or looking to take their fitness beyond basic mat work.
- Functional Strength: We use your own body weight to build muscle, which improves your stability in daily life.
- Flexibility Training: Whether you are working toward your first split or want to deepen a backbend, we use props and the environment to support safe, effective stretching.
- Playful Progression: Sometimes we use a slide or a pull-up bar, not just for fun, but to challenge our grip and core engagement in new ways.
