Empowering Educators: Hands-on Math & Literacy Training

I partner with schools to move professional development from passive lectures to active, hands-on discovery. We dive deep into math agility and literacy strategies that bring classroom learning to life.

A moment of discovery during a professional development session with teachers. My goal is to create an environment where educators can experience the joy of hands-on learning themselves, so they can bring that same energy and understanding back to their students.

Teachers collaborating and problem-solving together during a training session. I believe professional development should honor the wisdom in the room and build a community of learners who support one another.

This video captures the energy of a Math From Scratch training session with a group of incredible educators. We focused on building number sense, math agility, and logical reasoning using visual and hands-on tools.

I was honored to facilitate a training for a wonderful group of math teachers at CS Academy in Coimbatore. It is always a pleasure to collaborate with schools that are deeply invested in the professional growth of their educators.

About this collection

When I lead training, we do not talk about theory in isolation. We sit on the floor, use the same manipulatives the children use, and solve problems together. Whether it is decoding phonics or building number sense with Yonjuu cards, we experience the frustration and the aha moments ourselves before we ever step foot back in a classroom.

Professional development often feels like a box-ticking exercise, but I believe it should be a shared journey. My workshops are built on the premise that if you want to teach differently, you must experience the learning differently.

Moving Beyond Rote Learning

I work with schools that are ready to move away from rigid, lecture-based training. Whether I am at CS Academy in Coimbatore or DPS Hinjawadi, the focus is the same: Math Agility. We explore how to help children think flexibly with numbers, reason logically, and see patterns. It is about equipping teachers with the confidence to say, 'We can try this another way.'

The Science of Reading & Early Math

My sessions are divided into two primary focus areas:

  • Math from Scratch: We break down complex concepts into Concrete, Pictorial, and Abstract stages. Teachers practice using cubes, dough, and number tracks to understand how children build a foundation in early numeracy.
  • Science of Reading: I help educators move beyond whole-language approaches. We dive into phonemic awareness, blending, and segmenting. It is about understanding the mechanics of how a child decodes text, so teachers can identify exactly where a student gets stuck.

A Collaborative Approach

I do not arrive with a rigid script. I arrive with questions. I want to honor the wisdom already present in your faculty room. We look at your current challenges, refine your questioning techniques, and ensure that every tool I introduce—from the Yonjuu deck to sensory play-dough—has a clear, practical purpose in your daily teaching. My goal is to leave you with strategies you can implement the very next day, not just notes on a page.

We are Hattennoki, and we started this journey because we saw too many teachers stuck in a cycle of rote methods that did not help their students thrive. Our workshops are about getting educators back to the basics: hands-on, play-based, and deeply personal. We partner with schools across India to help teachers find that spark again.
