Storytelling and Puppetry Workshops for Educators
I help teachers bring lessons to life using simple puppetry, voice modulation, and rhythm exercises that work for every subject, from STEM to languages.
Exploring storytelling and puppetry as a teaching tool with the wonderful educators at NH Goel World School. We focused on how these arts boost creativity, participation, and attention span in the classroom.
It was a pleasure to sit down with the principal and teachers at DPS Varanasi to share anecdotes about the impact of storytelling in schools today. These conversations are just as important as the workshops themselves.
The feedback from educators at ICan International School was incredibly heartwarming. This video captures their enthusiasm and highlights how the workshop provided them with creative, practical, and easy-to-implement storytelling techniques.
Hearing directly from teachers after a workshop is the best reward. Listen to their takeaways on learning the nitty-gritty of puppetry, voice modulation, and how they plan to use these new skills in their classrooms and at home.
I love conducting workshops for parents and teachers on how to adapt stories for the classroom and home. Here I am in Tiruchirappalli, demonstrating how to use storytelling to explore different academic concepts.
It is always fun to get teachers to participate and play. During this interactive session in Tiruchirappalli, we explored how simple actions and sounds can make a story much more engaging for young listeners.
Sharing my favorite picture books is a key part of my workshops for parents and educators. Holding up a book like 'Kali and the Rat Snake' helps demonstrate how powerful visuals and narratives can be used to discuss important themes.
About this collection
My sessions are not just lectures. We focus on the nitty-gritties, like how to handle a puppet while speaking, how to use rhythm to grab student attention, and how to adapt your existing syllabus into a narrative format. You do not need to be a performer to make this work, you just need to be willing to play. By the end of our time together, you will have concrete techniques to integrate into your classroom the very next day.
When I walk into a school, I do not just see a curriculum. I see potential for connection. Whether you are teaching Math, Science, or Literature, the goal of my Story Pedagogy module is to help you bridge the gap between abstract concepts and student engagement.
We spend 3 hours diving into practical, actionable tools:
- Voice Modulation: How to use your tone to build suspense or provide comfort.
- Classroom Puppetry: Using simple props to hold attention without needing expensive equipment.
- Rhythm and Movement: Keeping restless students focused through physical engagement.
- Story Adaptation: Taking a standard textbook lesson and weaving it into a narrative format.
Teachers often tell me they feel hesitant at first, worried they do not have a performer's voice. You do not need one. You just need to be authentic. We work on letting go of that pressure and reconnecting with your own inner storyteller.
I conduct these sessions for groups of up to 30 teachers, requiring just an AV room with a projector and sound system. Let us make your lessons the ones your students actually look forward to attending.
Talking Turtles Storytellers
I am Shreedevi Sunil. I believe every classroom has a story to tell, and sometimes a puppet is the best way to get that conversation started. My workshops are designed to help you find your rhythm and make your teaching feel less like a task and more like a shared experience.
