Welcome to our prepared environment. The shelves are filled with Montessori materials, openly accessible for children to choose their own work. This setup is the foundation of self-directed learning, allowing each child to follow their curiosity at their own pace.
Learning isn't confined to tables. Our indoor play zone, with its slide, rocker, and trampoline, is essential for developing gross motor skills. It's a space for joyful movement, balance, and coordination, all on a soft, safe floor.
Here, a group of children are captivated by the Moveable Alphabet, a cornerstone of Montessori language learning. They work together, sounding out words and discovering the magic of language in a tangible, collaborative way.
The pride of accomplishment is written all over her face. After carefully pounding her own snack, she gets to enjoy the results. This is a simple yet profound practical life activity that builds independence and confidence.
A child experiences the relationship between size and dimension by combining two classic Montessori sensorial materials, the Pink Tower and the Brown Stairs. This hands-on work builds a concrete foundation for future mathematical understanding and sharpens visual discrimination.
Our entrance, with its name in both English and Kannada, is often greeted by a natural carpet of flowers from the tree above. I believe a child's learning environment should feel as welcoming and beautiful as nature itself.
About this collection
You won't find rigid desks or rote memorization in our space. Instead, you'll see shelves stocked with purposefully crafted materials—from sandpaper letters to bead chains—that children choose freely. Whether they are pounding spices in our practical life station or observing a snail in our terrace garden, they are building deep independence through real, tangible work.
At Hastam Montessori, we view our 5,500 sq. ft. campus in Talaghattapura as a 'prepared environment.' This means everything is sized, placed, and designed for a child’s natural physical and mental needs, not just to keep them occupied. When you visit, you won't see teachers standing at the front of a room lecturing. You will see facilitators observing, stepping in only to introduce a new material or guide a child toward their next discovery.
Why Our Approach Works
- Child-Led Pace: We reject the 'one size fits all' approach. If a child spends two hours on a single puzzle, that is their work for the day, and it is respected.
- Mixed-Age Benefits: By having children aged 2.5 to 9 in the same environment, the younger ones learn by watching the older ones, and the older ones cement their own knowledge by helping the younger ones.
- Nature as a Teacher: Learning extends beyond the indoors. Our terrace garden and outdoor play zone are where children connect with biological cycles, whether that means observing insect life or harvesting vegetables.
Practical Life and Sensory Learning
We place heavy emphasis on practical life skills. Activities like pouring, using locks, or preparing a snack serve two purposes: developing fine motor control and building the confidence that comes from doing things 'by myself.'
