Q1

How much does a 40th or 50th birthday party cost in Bengaluru?

Twenty-five people at home, with food ordered in, a cake and balloons, works out to about ₹8,500 to ₹13,500. Thirty with a caterer and a backdrop is about ₹21,000 to ₹42,000, and 50 in a hall with two singers and a photographer about ₹73,000 to ₹2.05 lakh. The music, the hall and the bar change the total most. A bar for 50 adds ₹60,000 to ₹1.5 lakh or more.

Q2

Should we have the party at home, in a restaurant or in a hall?

A family dinner for up to about 25 works at home or in a restaurant. Friends who'll drink are easiest in a restaurant or pub, which serves under its own licence. Thirty to 50 fits a clubhouse or a big home with a caterer, and past 50 you need a hall. At home, plan for the speakers to go off at 10 pm.

Q3

Do I need a planner, or can I book the caterer, decorator and singer myself?

For a party at home or in a clubhouse, book them yourself: it's a caterer, a decorator, and maybe a singer or a host. A planner is worth paying when you're not in Bengaluru, or when it's a surprise you can't be seen arranging.

Q4

What do we actually do at the party, so it feels like their 50th?

Plan three moments: their entry or the cake, a few short speeches with old photos on a screen, and dinner early enough for the elders. Someone has to run it: a host on mytribe from about ₹5,000 for an hour or two, or one family member with a written running order.

Q5

What's not included in a caterer's per-plate price?

Often the serving staff, the plates and cutlery, transport and GST. Non-veg adds about ₹100 to ₹300 a plate on the menus we hold, and each live counter ₹150 to ₹400 a guest. So ask every caterer to write down what their price includes.

Q6

Do I need a liquor licence to serve drinks at a party in Bengaluru?

At a hall, a farmhouse or a lawn, yes: a one-day CL-5 licence from Karnataka's Excise department, ₹20,000 for a private party since May 2026, or ₹40,000 if you apply within 24 hours of it. A restaurant, pub or hotel serves under its own licence. The ₹20,000 is a flat fee, which for 50 guests works out to ₹400 a head, so if drinks matter, price a restaurant's bar against it.

Q7

How much does a live singer cost for a party, and is the sound system extra?

One singer costs ₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for an evening of two or three hours, and a pair ₹15,000 to ₹80,000, depending on how much they've performed. Ask who brings the sound: a speaker set alone hires from ₹3,499.

Q8

How much is birthday decoration for adults, and how do I keep it from looking like a kid's party?

Keep it to gold, silver, black or rose, a neon sign and the age lit up, with no characters. At Jay Bhawani Decoration a balloon ring with a neon sign is ₹4,000 to ₹6,000, and a sequin wall with the age lit up ₹6,000 to ₹10,000.

₹4,000 to ₹6,000

A silver sequin wall with a Happy Birthday neon sign, a black and silver balloon garland over it, a small round table and a lit 25, on artificial grass at night

A sequin wall with the age lit up

₹6,000 to ₹10,000

A 6 to 7 ft ring, or a plain backdrop stand

An 8x8 ft sequin wall, or a print with a name and photo

200 to 300 balloons over most of the ring

Over 300 balloons, spilling onto the floor

One neon sign, no number

A neon sign and up to two 3 ft lit numbers

One or two props; 1 to 1.5 hours to set up

3 to 5 pedestals; three people, 2 to 3 hours

Both are Jay Bhawani Decoration's own ranges, within 10 km of Jayanagar. Photos are from their gallery; the ring photo has more pedestals and props than the ring's price includes. Photos: Jay Bhawani Decoration.

Q9

How far ahead should I book the venue and caterer, and do I get my advance back if I cancel?

Book the hall first. For a weekend from November to February, the wedding season, we'd start two to three months ahead, and three to four weeks the rest of the year. Advances run from ₹500 to half the fee or more, and what comes back if you cancel differs from one provider to the next, so read that line before you pay.

Before you pay anyone, settle these six

  1. What's in each price, in writing: GST, staff, plates, transport and sound
  2. The number of plates you'll pay for, and the date it's fixed
  3. What the venue allows: an outside caterer and decorator, the music's end time, set-up time and the deposit
  4. For drinks: the venue's own licence, or your CL-5
  5. Who runs the evening, with a written running order
  6. Each advance, and what happens if you cancel or move the date

Want us to find them?

A milestone party is four or five bookings, each priced its own way. The caterer quotes by the plate, the decorator by the setup and the singer by the evening, and each leaves out something different, like the staff, the sound or the transport.

Tell us once instead. We come back with caterers, decorators, hosts and singers who fit, each priced for your party, with their own past work. We already know them: we've checked their real work and their prices, and called their past clients, including about what went wrong. Only about 1 in 10 who apply get in, and every one is re-checked at least every six months. How we verify

Every booking comes with an agreement on what's included and what it costs. It's free for you. The provider pays mytribe a small fee when you book, and you pay them directly, at the same price as going to them yourself. If something isn't going to plan, a person here sorts it out.

The same chat answers questions about the party itself, like whether a quote is fair. This guide is about Bengaluru; for another city, ask on the same number.
