How to plan a baby shower in Bengaluru
A baby shower, seemantham, godh bharai or valaikappu in Bengaluru (Bangalore): what it costs and what to settle before you pay.
What does a baby shower or seemantham cost in Bengaluru?
A baby shower or seemantham for 30 guests in Bengaluru costs about ₹20,000 to ₹50,000, with a caterer, a decorator, a photographer, a cake and return gifts. That's before the hall's rent and transport. For 100 guests it's about ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, because food grows with every guest. Those sums take a decoration of up to ₹19,000, which buys a simple seemantham stage with her seat. A fuller stage, up to ₹35,000, or a big stage in a hall costs more. Nearly 3 in 4 of the 60 families who gave us a decoration budget planned ₹10,000 or less. That buys balloons with a neon sign, and it's about where a wall of fresh flowers starts.
About ₹2,500 to ₹8,000
Balloons and a sign on one wall
A local balloon decorator puts up a garland or a ring in your colours, with a sign or a small printed banner. Ask if BABY blocks are in it. Bright and quick, and enough for a party at home or a corner of a restaurant. No flowers, and nothing for the ritual
About ₹6,000 to ₹15,000
A neon sign or a printed panel, with a fuller garland
A ring or a panel with an Oh Baby neon sign or her name printed on it, a bigger garland with leaves or flowers, and a cake table. It looks styled, and suits a home or a clubhouse
About ₹9,000 to ₹20,000
A fresh-flower wall for the ceremony
Marigold strings or banana leaves on a frame about 8 ft wide, a drape and brass lamps. Real flowers smell of the occasion and look alive in the photos, but they dry as the day goes on, so take the photos early
About ₹15,000 to ₹35,000
A seemantham stage with her seat and the plates
The wall, plus a carved seat for her, styled plates of fruit and sweets, dolls, lamps and a welcome board. The ritual photos are taken on this stage. A stage like this one shows about a dozen plates, but we don't know how many a price holds, so ask how many are in it. More plates and real flowers take it up
About ₹20,000 to ₹75,000
A hall stage or a big traditional set
A backdrop 16 to 20 ft wide that fills a hall, a sofa for the couple, flower borders, or Pichwai and Krishna art. A wedding-size stage in fresh roses goes past a lakh. Some halls have their own decorator, so get their price for the same stage too
Which baby shower and seemantham themes can we pick, and what does each cost?
Pick the look your family wants. The size of the setup sets the price more than the theme does. A seemantham look can be a banana-leaf wall with marigold, or a stage with her seat, rows of plates and dolls. A western shower can be a balloon ring with BABY blocks, or a neon sign and a full arch. Families ask us most for the banana-leaf and marigold stage, then a western shower with balloons, then fresh flowers with a seat for her.
Why do baby shower and seemantham decoration quotes vary so much?
A cheaper quote is usually a wall of banana leaves or marigold behind her. A higher one is a wider wall in more and richer flowers, or a stage built around her. A stage adds a carved seat, rows of styled plates of fruit and sweets, dolls and a welcome board, and that's what fills the ritual photos. So ask every quote for the same four things: her seat, real or artificial flowers, the backdrop's width and how many plates.

Baby shower food in Bengaluru: what does it cost a plate, and what do we serve?
Caterers charge by the plate, and the menu sets the price. A vegetarian lunch costs about ₹280 to ₹550 a plate here, and Smart Chef Catering's premium buffet runs to ₹1,200. Serving staff and transport can come on top, so ask what's in the plate price: the plates, the staff, transport and GST.
What do we buy for a seemantham, godh bharai or valaikappu, and what does it add to the bill?
The ceremony has its own shopping: her saree, bangles, plates of fruit, sweets and coconut, flowers, a gift for each woman and the priest's fee. Get the priest's full list first. Styled plates are the biggest line.
Which month of pregnancy is the seemantham held, and how early do we book?
A seemantham is usually held in the sixth, seventh or eighth month, depending on the family and the text it follows, so your priest and elders set the date. A valaikappu is often in the fifth or seventh. Book the decorator two to three weeks ahead, nearer three for a weekend.
If we have to move or cancel the baby shower, do we lose the advance?
Probably yes, if you cancel. Most decorators keep the advance, because they buy the flowers and props for your date. Most will move it to a new date if they're free, so ask what happens if you move the date before you pay, and get the answer on WhatsApp.
How do we keep a pregnant mother comfortable and safe at her baby shower?
Plan the day around her. Do the rituals and photos first, while she's fresh. Give her a proper seat with a back, keep homam smoke and strong-smelling flowers away from her, and have a plate of food she can eat ready before the guests start.
Home, clubhouse, hall or restaurant: where should we hold a baby shower in Bengaluru?
Home has no rent and the fewest rules. For a clubhouse, hall or restaurant, ask in writing before you pay: can we bring our own caterer and decorator, is a homam or a lit lamp allowed, can anything touch the walls, and when must we be out.
What happens at a seemantham, in what order, and how long does it take?
One Vedic account puts the seemantham's rituals in the morning, before noon. Ask your priest for your family's order and how long it runs, then book the hall and the photographer for the whole morning.
Before you pay, settle these six
- What's in the decoration price: her seat, real or artificial flowers, the backdrop's width, the number of plates, travel
- What the hall allows: your own caterer and decorator, a homam or lamps, the walls, the hours
- The priest's list, with a name against each item
- A ready-by time before the muhurtham, and who comes to set up
- What's in the plate price: the plates, the staff, transport
- The advance, and what happens if you move the date

Want us to find one?
Doing this yourself takes a week. You message ten decorators, caterers and photographers, many don't reply to a number they don't know, the ones who do send packages that don't line up, and Instagram only shows each one's best day.
Tell us once instead. We come back with the decorators, caterers and photographers who fit, each priced for your baby shower, with their own past work. We already know them: we've checked their real work and their prices, and called their past clients, including about what went wrong. Only about 1 in 10 who apply get in, and every one is re-checked at least every six months. How we verify
Every booking comes with an agreement on what's included and what it costs. It's free for you. The provider pays mytribe a small fee when you book, and you pay them directly, at the same price as going to them yourself. If something isn't going to plan, a person here sorts it out.
The same chat answers questions about the baby shower itself, like whether a quote is fair. This guide is about Bengaluru; for another city, ask on the same number.
