Expert Sprint Coaching Tips & Athletic Insights
I’m Amit Khanna. Real speed is a skill, and it starts with the right technique. I share my professional coaching insights here to help every young runner find their stride and build a champion's mindset.
Here I explain the three most common mistakes new runners make when starting a race and how to correct them for a faster time.
A tip for running the 200m and 400m. I explain how to run the curve like a tangent to cover the minimum distance and improve your timing.
On this NDTV panel, I discuss the moral responsibility of schools to identify and nurture sporting talent from a young age.
My thoughts on how to improve sports in India. We need to build a proper ladder for athletes to climb from the school level to the national stage.
My advice on protein supplements. For most young athletes, a natural diet is enough. For professionals, always get a blood test before taking any supplement.
On this Zee News panel, I talk about why this is the best time for a sportsperson to be born in India. The old saying 'kheloge kudoge hoge kharab' is no longer true.
A valuable tip after a tough workout. I explain the importance of pushing through fatigue to improve endurance and why you should not save energy for the last run.
A common mistake made by beginners is using the same arm and leg forward. I demonstrate the correct opposite arm, opposite leg technique for an efficient start.
About From the Coach's Corner: Expert Tips & Insights
Most beginners mess up the basics of their start by placing the same hand and leg forward. To explode out of the blocks, you need the opposite arm and leg position for a powerful, efficient launch. It is a small change, but it makes a massive difference in your timing on the track.
Mastering Your Mechanics
Speed isn't just about raw power; it is about efficiency. Whether you are running the 100m or the 400m, small adjustments in your running mechanics yield big results. I often see athletes wasting energy by running wide on the curve. By planting your starting block diagonally, you can run the curve like a tangent, covering the shortest distance possible. This precision is exactly what we drill at my sessions in GD Goenka, Vasant Kunj and IIT Delhi.
The Champion's Mindset
Technique is the foundation, but mindset is what keeps you going when the lactic acid builds up. Many athletes hold back energy, fearing the pain of the last stretch. I teach them the opposite: push through that fatigue. That is where your aerobic capacity and speed endurance are actually built. If you save your energy for the end, you lose the purpose of the workout.
Fueling for Performance
I get asked constantly about supplements. My advice is simple: if you are training, focus on a natural diet first. Professional athletes should always get blood tests before even considering supplements, but for most young kids, a balanced, homemade meal is enough. I grew up eating aloo ke parathe and safed makkhan—my body was fueled by real food.
Grassroots Development
Sports in India are changing. It is no longer just about 'kheloge kudoge hoge kharab.' If you have the drive, the support system exists to take you to the national and international stage. My goal is to build that missing ladder for young athletes—taking them from school-level talent to competitive champions. If your child has the passion to run, I have the plan to make them fast.
