Our Architectural Design Process: From Sketch to Site
Every structure begins as a rough sketch, but its real life unfolds on the construction site. Take a look at our process, from early concepts to the realities of building in Bengaluru.
The initial concept sketch for our 'Interrogation of the Primal' art installation. This is where the idea begins, exploring form and space before it becomes a physical reality.
Early sketches exploring the different elements of the art installation. This stage is about brainstorming and refining the core ideas that will define the final piece.
A more developed sketch of the installation, showing the placement of the three chair forms. This helps us visualize the spatial relationship and narrative flow of the piece.
A colored concept sketch, bringing the ideas of past, present, and future to life. This rendering helps define the materials and mood for each component of the installation.
A detailed sketch focusing on the 'Past' and 'Present' elements of our installation. We explored using a fossil-like imprint and iridescent materials to represent different states of time.
This sketch details the 'Future' element, a kaleidoscopic cube of mirrors and light. The concept was to create an infinite reflection, suggesting endless possibilities for reinvention.
The final concept for the 'Interrogation of the Primal' installation, a collaboration with Simply Sofas for Designuru 4.0. The design explores the act of creation through three states of a chair.
About this collection
Design happens in the studio, but architecture happens on the ground. We believe in staying deeply involved during construction, whether we are finalizing stone placements in Koramangala or coordinating structural teams to ensure a column-free interior. This hands-on presence allows us to refine details as they take shape, ensuring the final build matches the vision we sketched on paper.
Architecture is rarely a linear path. It is a messy, beautiful dialogue between an initial thought and the physical reality of a site. When we work on a project, the drawing board is only the starting point.
Moving from Concept to Reality
Our process begins with intense conceptual work. You can see this in our collaborative art installations, like the 'Interrogation of the Primal' project for Designuru. These explorations of form and space help us break free from standard grids and explore new possibilities—like how a chair can represent the past, present, and future. We apply this same creative rigor to your home or office. We don't just draft plans; we study the sun-path, wind direction, and topography of your specific plot to ensure the building breathes.
The Site is Our Classroom
Once the concept is approved, the work moves to the site. This is where the real project management happens. We coordinate structural engineers, HVAC teams, and masonry contractors to ensure the vision survives the build. You will see us on-site during critical milestones—plinth casting, lintel level, and final interior finishing.
We don't just supervise; we collaborate with the masons and craftsmen on the ground. If a stone needs to be placed differently to catch the light, or a wall needs shifting to preserve a tree, we make that call on-site. This is how we ensure that a house doesn't just look like a drawing but feels like a sanctuary built for its specific environment.
Gayathri & Namith Architects
We are Gayathri and Namith. For us, architecture is about shaping stories, not just walls. We personally walk every site because we believe design is a conversation that continues long after the drawings are finalized.
