About this collection
When we stand on stage at events like FOAID or the ICA Talks, we aren't there just to present finished photos. We are there to break down the 'how'—the messy, exciting reality of adapting international trends while keeping the soul of Indian heritage intact. We discuss how to handle specific site constraints, manage natural ventilation in urban settings, and why the traditional courtyards of Tulunadu still matter in modern buildings. It is about practical design that works for our climate, not just following design trends.
Why We Engage
Architecture is a profession that requires constant learning and sharing. Our presence at forums like the World Architecture Festival, Designuru, and various IIID chapters isn't just about recognition. It is our way of giving back to the design community. We believe the future of Indian architecture lies in our ability to analyze and assimilate. We look at what is happening globally, but we filter it through our specific understanding of Indian culture and the Panchamahabhuta elements.
What We Discuss
- Adapting to Context: We often speak about the friction between global aspirations and local limitations. Our talks frequently address how to build sustainably without sacrificing comfort.
- Mentoring the Next Generation: As Gayathri often says, 'India is shining,' and the young generation is capable of big things. We use these platforms to encourage students and young architects to stick to their guns, analyze their sites deeply, and create spaces that actually matter.
- The Business of Design: We don't shy away from the hard conversations about scaling a practice, managing vendors, and the realities of being on-site. We want to show that architecture is as much about people and management as it is about aesthetics.
Whether it is a panel on the globalization of design or a keynote on sustainable housing, we aim to start conversations that move the industry forward. We want to demonstrate that heritage is not static—it is a tool we use to innovate for the future.
Gayathri & Namith Architects
We are Gayathri and Namith. We don’t just design buildings; we try to nurture a culture of design. Whether we are in our Koramangala studio or on a stage sharing our process, our goal is the same: to show that Indian architecture is ready to take on the world.
