Mastering Watercolor and Acrylic Painting
Painting is more than applying color to a canvas; it is an exercise in observation and patience. In our studio, we guide you through the discipline of watercolors and acrylics, helping you develop a style that is truly your own.

About this collection
You will choose between specialized modules for either structural watercolor or acrylics, both designed as intensive 8-week courses. We prioritize the fundamentals, such as color temperature, water flow, or layering, rather than rushing to finish a piece. You will be responsible for purchasing your own consumables—such as 300 GSM paper or professional-grade paints—and we will provide a detailed list to ensure you invest in quality materials that last.
Our painting modules are designed for those who want to move past casual hobbies and develop a serious practice. We view painting as a 'sadhana', or disciplined practice, and our Jayanagar studio provides the calm environment needed for this work.
The Watercolor Module
We emphasize the physics of the medium: wet-on-wet techniques, transparency, and water flow control. Because watercolors are unforgiving, we spend the initial weeks learning how paper reacts to pigment, teaching you to embrace the permanence of every stroke.
The Acrylic Module
In our acrylic classes, you will learn to build texture, blend, and work with layers. We encourage students to study the masters, often analyzing the work of artists like S. Ilayaraja to understand how light and shadow behave in figurative painting. You will learn to manipulate drying times and use mediums correctly to achieve the finish you want.
Learning at the Gurukul
All classes are held offline in our studio. We maintain small, focused batches to ensure you receive specific feedback on your brushwork and color choices. We avoid competition, preferring that each student works at their own pace. If you are a beginner, we strongly recommend completing our foundation sketching module first, though we can assess students with prior experience individually. Come prepared to treat these sessions with the same respect you would give to any professional pursuit.
