The Story Behind En Madtidiya
Every experiment starts with a simple question. Discover the curiosity, nature-inspired art, and the personal journey that built this experimental space.
Hi, I'm Kruthika. In this video, I share a little about what 'En Madtidiya' is: an experimental platform to create and learn with nature, and to celebrate our beautiful Indian art forms.
I was so honored to receive the MSME Handcrafters Award. This journey wouldn't be possible without the support of this wonderful community, and I'm filled with gratitude.
My hands, stained blue from a day of working with indigo. For me, creating with my hands is the most authentic way to express myself and connect with the natural materials I love.

A candid shot from the awards ceremony. I am so grateful for the encouragement and support that has helped me turn my passion into my profession.

About The Story of En Madtidiya
When I first started, my dyeing experiments were just messy kitchen projects that left my mother asking, "En Madtidiya?" (What are you doing?). That playful, slightly chaotic curiosity is exactly what I bring to every workshop today. I don't believe in rigid rules or perfect outcomes; I believe in showing up, getting your hands stained with natural indigo or crushed marigolds, and finding calm in the process. My goal is to make art accessible, teaching you to see the potential in kitchen waste and fallen flowers rather than just buying new materials.
From Kitchen Experiments to Art
'En Madtidiya' began as a question, but it became a way of life. For me, nature has always been the best teacher. My workshops are designed to bridge the gap between people and the natural world, turning simple, everyday items into pieces of art. Whether we are extracting vibrant hues from food scraps for tie-dyeing or using hammers to transfer botanical pigments onto fabric with the Japanese art of Tatakizome, the focus is always on the experience, not just the result.
Why I Teach
I believe we have lost our tactile connection to the objects we use. In a digital, fast-paced city like Bangalore, my workshops offer a necessary pause. When you spend two hours working with your hands—making handmade paper or block printing a stole—you aren't just creating a product; you are practicing mindfulness. My sessions are about learning by doing. We keep things experimental and simple, so even if you have never held a paintbrush or a block, you will leave with something unique and a story of how you made it.
Awards and Recognition
I was truly humbled to receive the MSME Handcrafters Award. This recognition was not just a validation of my work, but a celebration of the heritage crafts and sustainable practices I am passionate about. It fuels my commitment to continue this journey, inviting more people to slow down, explore natural art forms, and reconnect with the environment around us.
I bring all the materials, tools, and expertise to you. We can set up these sessions in your home, at a local park, or even in your office space. If you are curious about the science of natural dyes or want to host a hands-on nature play session for kids, I am here to help you get started.
