About Flower Pounding: The Art of Tatakizome
You don’t need any artistic background to start, just a bit of curiosity. In these sessions, we arrange fresh, colorful petals on fabric or paper, and use a wooden mallet to transfer their natural pigments, revealing detailed, one-of-a-kind prints that you get to take home.
Tatakizome, the Japanese art of botanical printing, is a rhythmic, meditative process. It is about slowing down, engaging your senses, and finding calm in a world that rarely stops. When you join one of my workshops in Bengaluru, I guide you through the process of selecting petals, arranging your patterns, and the careful hammering that transfers the living color of marigolds, roses, and leaves onto your canvas pouch or greeting card.
Everything is non-toxic and sourced from nature. It is a fantastic way to unwind after a long week, whether you are coming alone to disconnect from screens or bringing a group for a team-bonding activity. My goal is to get you out of your head and into your hands. I handle all the material setup, from the wooden mallets to the pre-mordanted fabric, so you can simply focus on the act of creating. Whether you are in Indiranagar or anywhere else in the city, I come to your preferred venue to host this gentle, stress-busting experience.
