Natural Dyeing & Tie-Dye Workshops in Bengaluru
Transform everyday kitchen scraps and plants into vibrant art. Join my hands-on workshops to learn natural dyeing and Shibori techniques right here in Bengaluru.
This is where the magic begins. From folding and tying the fabric to revealing the final pattern, our natural tie-dye workshops are a journey of anticipation and beautiful discovery.
Bundles of fabric simmering in a rich, red dye bath made from Sappanwood. This is a crucial step where the fabric absorbs the natural color, creating the base for our vibrant tie-dye designs.
The big reveal! Participants unfurl their organic cotton stoles to see the beautiful, intricate patterns they created. The excitement in this moment is always palpable.
I gave my aunt's old linen shirt a new life with natural indigo. This is the power of upcycling, a sustainable practice that reduces waste and transforms forgotten garments into fashionable new pieces.
Students from Republic Polytechnic, Singapore, experiencing the art of natural dyeing. It was a wonderful session of cultural exchange, where they learned to create beautiful patterns with plant-based colors.
The process of natural dyeing is very hands-on. Here, a participant is squeezing excess water from the fabric before it goes into the dye bath, an important step to ensure even color absorption.
A beautiful flat-lay of our workshop setup, featuring bowls of natural dye materials and swatches of previously dyed fabrics. This gives participants a feel for the colors they can create.
A participant carefully folding her fabric to create a specific tie-dye pattern. The way you fold and tie the material is what determines the final design, making each piece unique.
Tying the fabric with string is a key part of the Shibori tie-dye technique. These resists prevent the dye from reaching certain parts of the fabric, which is how the beautiful white patterns are formed.
Participants at a workshop, fully engaged in preparing their fabrics for dyeing. I love the focused, creative energy that fills the room during these sessions.
About Natural Dyeing & Tie-Dye Creations
You might think dyeing fabric requires a lab, but in my workshops, we use turmeric, indigo, and kitchen waste to create deep, rich colors. The process is simple: we bundle, we bind using traditional Shibori techniques, and we simmer. You will leave with a piece of fabric that is not only a work of art but also a reminder that creativity can be messy, sustainable, and surprisingly relaxing.
Whether you are looking to refresh an old, stained shirt or want to try your hand at creating custom tote bags, natural dyeing is the perfect blend of science and art. In my sessions, we focus on 'learning by doing' rather than following rigid rules. We explore the chemistry of natural mordants and use dyes from sources like Sappanwood or food scraps to ensure everything is eco-friendly.
You do not need prior experience. I guide you through the Shibori binding method—folding and tying the fabric to create patterns—before we dip it into our dye baths. It is a slow, meditative process. By the time you untie your bundles to reveal the pattern, the initial curiosity turns into pure excitement.
We often host these workshops in relaxed, semi-outdoor settings across Bengaluru, like cafes or parks, which helps everyone switch off from their screens. If you have a group, whether it is a corporate team or a family gathering, I can bring the dyes, the fabric, and the equipment to your location. For those who prefer a solo project, I also offer home kits that include pre-mordanted fabric and video tutorials. Let’s make something beautiful from waste.

Hi, I’m Kruthika. I started 'En Madtidiya' because of my mom’s constant, curious question about my kitchen experiments. My goal is to help you slow down and find joy in the process of making art with nature.
