Nature Art and Natural Dyeing Workshops
I create space for you to slow down through tactile, nature-based art. From flower pounding to natural dyeing, we use simple materials to make something entirely your own, right here in Bangalore.
There's a special kind of magic that happens when we allow ourselves to play, especially with nature. This is what my workshops are all about: reconnecting with the earth and each other, one muddy handprint at a time.
The moment of reveal is always my favorite. Seeing the joy on everyone's faces as they unfurl their own unique, naturally dyed creations is what makes every workshop so special.
The simple, rhythmic act of Tatakizome, or flower pounding, is a wonderfully meditative process. It's a chance to slow down and watch as nature’s pigments bloom right onto the fabric under your hands.
Look at that proud smile! I love seeing little artists bring their imagination to life. In this block printing session, we used safe, non-toxic inks to create wearable art that also teaches about our beautiful animal kingdom.
This Dabu printed rug was a true labor of love, created using the traditional mud-resist techniques from Rajasthan. Holding the finished piece reminds me of the incredible history and skill embedded in India's heritage crafts.
A splash of nature's happiest colors! These t-shirts are hand-dyed using botanical sources like indigo, marigold, and madder root. Each one is a unique, wearable piece of art that’s gentle on your skin and the planet.
People often ask me, "En Madtidiya?" which means "What are you doing?" in Kannada. Here’s the story of how my mother's curious question became the heart and name of my creative journey.
Our classroom is often the great outdoors, like here in Bangalore's beautiful Cubbon Park. There's nothing better than creating together under the trees, surrounded by the very inspiration for our art.
About Featured
In my workshops, we get our hands dirty on purpose. Whether we are pounding fresh marigolds into fabric or mixing natural dyes, the goal is to let go of perfection. You will walk away with a unique, naturally dyed creation and a bit of soil under your nails, which is exactly how nature intended.
My workshops are designed to be a gentle escape from screens and the rush of city life. We focus on 'learning by doing'—a philosophy that led to the name En Madtidiya. When I started experimenting with natural dyes in my mother’s kitchen, her constant question, 'En Madtidiya?' or 'What are you doing?', became the foundation of my practice. I want you to feel that same playful curiosity.
We work primarily outdoors or in semi-open spaces, using whatever nature provides.
The Techniques We Explore
- Flower Pounding (Tatakizome): A meditative process of hammering botanical pigments directly onto canvas pouches or greeting cards.
- Natural Dyeing: We use food and flower waste like Turmeric, Indigo, and Sappanwood to transform organic cotton totes or stoles. You learn the science of mordanting and Shibori binding techniques.
- Block Printing: Using hand-carved wooden blocks and non-toxic inks to create patterns on fabric, connecting you with Indian heritage crafts.
- Nature Play: Sessions dedicated to mud art and sensory play, helping both kids and adults reconnect with the soil.
I travel across Bangalore to conduct these sessions at cafes, parks, and corporate offices. If you are looking to host a team bonding event, a family weekend activity, or a solo creative break, I provide all the materials. You just bring your presence and a willingness to make a mess.
En Madtidiya
I am Kruthika. I started En Madtidiya because I wanted to bring the same curiosity I felt as a kid to everyone else. Whether we are in a cafe or a park, my sessions are just about slowing down, trying something new with plants and flowers, and maybe getting a little messy along the way.
