Behind the Art: My Journey & Mehendi Tips
Mehendi is more than just my work; it's my passion and my journey to becoming a self-independent woman. In this space, I share the reality of building a career in henna art and the practical steps to mastering this craft yourself.
I truly believe every girl should have a skill, a 'hunar', that allows her to be self-independent. For me, that skill is mehendi. It doesn't matter if you earn 10 rupees or a lakh, what matters is that you can stand on your own feet.
"It's just a cone, anyone can do it." I hear this sometimes, and it breaks my heart. This art requires years of practice and dedication. It's not just about drawing lines; it's about passion.
When someone asks for "just one free flower". My art has value, and so does yours. This is a little reminder to respect the time and skill that goes into every single design, no matter how small.
I remember buying all my first products and praying to Allah for customers. Every artist starts somewhere. This is a look at the investment and faith it takes to build a business from the ground up.
From this to this, Alhamdulillah. Seeing my students grow from practicing on paper to creating their own designs is the most rewarding part of my journey as a teacher.
This is why I teach. A student confidently applying mehendi on a client's hand is the best proof of success. My goal is to empower you with the skills to do the same.
About Behind the Art: My Journey & Tips
Many people think mehendi is just about grabbing a cone and moving your hand, but that is where they get it wrong. In my classes here in J.P. Nagar, we do not jump straight to designs. We spend hours on the basics, like how to hold the cone, the right pressure for consistent lines, and mixing your own henna paste so it actually stains. If you are willing to put in the hours, I will show you exactly how to turn this skill into a real career.
It was not always like this. I started by buying my own supplies, making cones at home, and praying to Allah for customers. A lot of people told me, 'It is just a cone, anyone can do it.' That actually hurt, because this is not just drawing lines, it is years of practice. That is why my teaching style is built on 'no shortcuts.' Whether you are a total beginner or an artist wanting to polish your floral work, you have to master the foundation first. We start with paper practice for muscle memory before moving to skin. My students learn the real deal, including how to mix organic henna powder, how to control the stringy consistency, and how to price their work so they are not undervalued. Being 'self-independent' is what I preach. Whether you earn 10 rupees or a lakh, having a skill like this gives you a safety net. If you are ready to put in the effort and get serious about your art, join me at my studio. We work hard, sometimes our hands ache, but that is how you get good. Let us make mehendi more than just a hobby for you.
