Custom Acrylic Portrait Commissions from Photos

Your photograph is merely the starting point. I transform your memories into archival-grade acrylic paintings, keeping you involved from the initial sketch to the final brushstroke.

This side-by-side view shows the reference photograph next to my completed acrylic painting. My work is not to replicate, but to interpret and elevate the image into a piece of fine art, focusing on traditional attire and expression.

The journey of a portrait starts with a foundational sketch on the canvas, mapping out the composition and key features from the client's reference photo. This is the structural blueprint for the painting.

An initial line drawing for a large-scale 48"x36" couple portrait. This stage is crucial for establishing the correct proportions and posture before any paint is applied.

Here, the initial sketch for a family group portrait is complete, and I have begun blocking in the background colors. This layering technique helps to create depth and atmosphere in the final piece.

This image shows an early stage of painting, where I have applied the base colors for the skin tones and clothing. This underpainting is fundamental to achieving realistic and vibrant colors in the finished work.

A work-in-progress view of a candid couple portrait. At this stage, the figures are fully rendered, and I am preparing to work on the background and final details that will complete the scene.

This time-lapse illustrates the gradual development of a portrait. You can observe the process of building up layers of acrylic paint to achieve depth, shadow, and realistic skin tones.

About this collection

Every portrait is a collaborative journey that begins with your reference photograph. I provide 2-3 visual progress updates—the initial sketch, base color blocking, and final detailing—ensuring the composition, skin tones, and attire are precisely as you envisioned before the permanent, non-yellowing archival varnish is applied.

The Commission Process

I view portrait painting as an act of translation. My process, refined through my training at the Sir J.J. School of Art, aims to move beyond a simple visual copy of a subject. My goal is to capture the underlying sentiment of the individual or the unique chemistry between a couple.

Phase 1: Composition & Conceptualization Before the brush touches the canvas, we determine the scope. Whether you are looking for a classic solo portrait, a detailed wedding depiction featuring intricate Zari work, or a multi-subject family piece, we begin by analyzing your reference photos. If you have separate images, I can merge them into a single, cohesive composition.

Phase 2: The Foundation I exclusively use professional heavy-body acrylics on museum-quality cotton or linen canvas. I start with a structural sketch to establish exact proportions. This is followed by an underpainting layer, which creates the depth and lightfastness required for a piece that will last for generations.

Phase 3: Refinement & Detail This is where the character emerges. I focus heavily on the specific details that define a person: the texture of the hair, the glint in an eye, or the specific drape of a saree. For larger family portraits, I can include environmental backgrounds, such as a garden or home interior, to provide context and atmosphere to the scene.

Logistics & Care Depending on the complexity, a commission typically takes between 12 to 40 days. Each painting is coated with an archival varnish to protect against UV light and dust, ensuring the colors remain vibrant over time. Your finished portrait is shipped with multi-layer protection, ensuring it arrives ready for display.

I see a portrait as far more than a visual copy of a face; it is about capturing a specific memory or the quiet essence of a person. My training taught me to look for the details that truly matter—the subtle folds in clothing or the expression in the eyes—which I then translate into lasting works on canvas.
