Every oil portrait starts with a single image. Here is how I transform your cherished memories into hand-painted, timeless artwork, layer by careful layer.

A great example of the photo-to-painting process. I take the original photograph and use it as a reference to create a unique, artistic interpretation on canvas.

Here you can see the original family photo on the left and the final, large-scale oil painting on the right. I work to capture the spirit of the photo while elevating it into a work of art.

This shows how a candid proposal shot can be transformed into a grand, romantic oil painting. I can adjust the composition and background to create the perfect scene.

Transforming an old, faded photograph into a vibrant oil painting is one of my specialties. I can restore lost color and detail to preserve your precious memories.

Watch this family portrait come to life, layer by layer. It's a process that requires patience and attention to detail.

This process video focuses on one of my favorite parts: painting the intricate patterns of traditional Indian clothing.

About From Photo to Painting: The Process

Many people assume I simply trace a photo, but the real work is in the composition. When you send me your reference photos, I spend time balancing the lighting, adjusting backgrounds, and sometimes even merging figures from different images—like bringing a loved one into a family group who wasn't there originally—before I ever pick up a brush.

The process of turning a flat photograph into a textured oil painting is deliberate and requires patience. I start with a detailed pencil sketch on the canvas to ensure the likeness and proportions are perfect. Once the structure is set, I begin layering the oil paints.

I work in stages, focusing first on the skin tones and expressions, which are the heart of any portrait. For the clothing, I pay extra attention to intricate details like Zardosi work, heavy jewelry, or the fabric patterns of a traditional Lehenga. These are the elements that bring the painting to life.

Every piece is finished with an archival-quality, non-yellowing picture varnish. This isn't just for shine; it protects your investment from dust and UV rays so the colors remain vibrant for decades. Whether you choose a medium-sized 12x16 inch canvas for a bedroom wall or a larger 30x40 inch statement piece for your living room, the goal is always the same: to create a piece that feels more 'real' than the photograph it was based on.

If you have a faded old photo, don't worry about the quality. I specialize in restoring details and can combine multiple references to create the perfect composition. It is about preserving relationships as much as it is about paint.

Hi, I’m Aashi. For me, a photo says 'wedding', but a painting says 'forever'. I don't just paint faces; I capture the feeling of the moment, whether it's a couple’s proposal or a tribute to a loved one who is no longer with us.
