Individual Portraits on Canvas

Commission a hand-painted individual portrait that captures the distinct character and emotional nuance of the subject, rendered in professional acrylics.

A completed individual portrait commissioned from a photograph. I concentrated on achieving a photorealistic quality while maintaining the richness and texture that only a physical painting can provide.

This formal portrait of a woman in a saree was painted with acrylic on canvas. The subtle lighting and serene expression were key elements in capturing the subject's dignified presence.

A close-up portrait where the focus is entirely on the subject's face. My process involves carefully blending acrylics to create smooth skin tones and capture the light in her eyes.

A detailed facial portrait. Every brushstroke is intended to contribute to the subject's likeness and the overall mood of the piece, resulting in a personalized artwork that will last for generations.

This video shows the evolution of a portrait, from a simple background color to a fully detailed painting of a woman in a beautiful saree. It reveals the careful addition of light, shadow, and intricate patterns.

A collection of my framed, commissioned portraits. Seeing the works framed and ready for display is the final step in the process of creating a family heirloom.

This video showcases a variety of my individual and thematic portrait works. It demonstrates my versatility in capturing different subjects, moods, and styles using acrylic on canvas.

About this collection

Each commission relies heavily on your source photograph, specifically the clarity of lighting and facial features, which allows me to focus on the subtleties of your expression. I work exclusively with professional heavy-body acrylics on museum-quality, double-primed cotton canvas, ensuring the artwork is not only visually accurate but built to last as an archival family heirloom.

My approach to portraiture is rooted in a discipline I developed at the Sir J.J. School of Art. I do not aim for simple duplication of an image; instead, I seek to interpret the underlying character, light, and sentiment present in the subject.

The Commission Process

When we begin, I request a high-quality reference photograph. The resolution of the image—particularly in the eyes and skin texture—is vital for the level of hyper-realism I aim to achieve. Once we agree on the composition, I prepare the canvas with high-quality gesso.

The painting process typically takes 12 to 18 days. During this time, I provide 2 to 3 visual progress updates. This allows you to witness the evolution from the initial blocking of light and form to the final application of detail and non-yellowing archival varnish. This varnish is essential, as it protects the pigment from UV rays and environmental pollutants, preserving the integrity of the colors for years.

Whether you are looking for a formal, traditional composition or a casual, contemporary interpretation, my focus remains on the structural stability of the canvas and the longevity of the work. Every piece I finish is a rigorous study of human form and emotional depth.

I see portraiture as a dialogue between the canvas and your memories. My time at the Sir J.J. School of Art taught me that a portrait is not merely a copy of a face, but a way to preserve the specific light and emotion of a moment. When I paint you, I am searching for the story behind the photograph.
