Spiritual and Mythological Art Commissions
Explore a collection of mythological narratives and spiritual iconography, rendered with archival-quality acrylics. Each piece is a thoughtful interpretation of faith and cultural storytelling, crafted specifically for your space.
A commissioned painting depicting Lord Ganesha. This piece combines traditional iconography with a more contemporary artistic interpretation, focusing on color, form, and the surrounding devotees.
This video presents two of my commissioned paintings of Radha and Krishna. Each piece explores a different narrative and mood, one serene and pastoral, the other celebratory and vibrant.
The very first step in a complex mythological painting: a light chalk sketch on a prepared canvas. This outlines the composition for a depiction of Lord Ganesha.
The painting process continues, with the central figure of Ganesha beginning to take shape. The vibrant colors of the garland are applied first to serve as a focal point.
Further progress on the Ganesha painting. I have started to render the ornate throne and headdress, carefully building up layers of acrylic paint to create a sense of dimension.
At this stage, the main figure is almost complete. The surrounding figures are still in their sketch phase, which illustrates my methodical approach of working from a central point outwards.
Another view of the Ganesha painting in progress. The background elements and the deity's form are being developed simultaneously to ensure a harmonious final composition.
About this collection
I approach these mythological subjects with a structured, multi-layered technique. We begin by defining the central composition on a museum-quality canvas, meticulously building depth from the focal point outwards. This methodical layering ensures that every element—from the deity's adornments to the background—receives individual attention before the final varnish is applied for longevity.
My approach to spiritual and mythological art is rooted in the academic discipline I cultivated at the Sir J.J. School of Art. While the subjects are timeless, my interpretation is contemporary, focusing on the interplay of light, form, and emotional resonance.
Whether you are seeking a depiction of Radha-Krishna, Lord Ganesha, or another cultural narrative, my process remains consistent. We start with a consultation to determine the mood; some prefer a serene, pastoral setting, while others look for a vibrant, celebratory composition.
My Process for Commissioned Works
- Concept & Composition: We discuss the specific iconography you wish to feature. I provide initial sketches to ensure the arrangement of figures and elements aligns with your vision.
- Layered Execution: Using heavy-body acrylics on double-primed cotton canvas, I build the painting incrementally. This allows me to refine details like the Zari work on attire or the intricate expressions on the deities' faces.
- Archival Standards: Every finished piece is coated with non-yellowing archival varnish, protecting the colors against environmental factors and ensuring the painting retains its vibrancy for years.
If you have a specific scripture, mythological scene, or family deity you wish to see rendered in this style, I am open to discussing the narrative you want to preserve.
Pratap Badtya
I am Pratap. My art is a bridge between the lessons I learned at Sir J.J. School and the stories I grew up hearing. When I paint a deity or a spiritual scene, I am not just creating an image; I am trying to capture the energy and silence that surrounds these sacred narratives.
