Wafer Paper Ruffle Cakes for Elegant Celebrations
I use edible wafer paper to create delicate, fabric-like ruffles that turn a cake into a stunning centerpiece. These designs bring a modern and romantic touch to weddings and special events.
This single-tier cake from my Ruffle Paper Collection showcases delicate, paper-thin ruffles and a spray of handmade white sugar flowers. The design is elegant and minimalist, perfect for an intimate wedding or anniversary.
A two-tier cake featuring a combination of flowing wafer paper drapes and a crown of ruffled sugar roses. The soft pink and white palette, accented with edible pearls and gold, creates a very romantic and luxurious feel.
This cake demonstrates the versatility of the ruffle paper technique with its vibrant green color. The look is completed with beautiful, translucent sugar peonies in a contrasting peach shade, touched with gold leaf.
A magnificent three-tier cake in a warm butter yellow, completely covered in vertical wafer paper ruffles. A cascade of sugar flowers in deep burgundy and soft pink adds a dramatic and beautiful contrast.
For this design, I created gentle waves with the wafer paper, embedding small pink roses within the folds. The cake is topped with a fresh bouquet of baby's breath and roses, blending edible art with natural beauty.
About The Ruffle Paper Collection
It is important to know that while these ruffles look like delicate fabric, they are entirely edible. The wafer paper is incredibly light, which allows me to create dramatic, flowing textures without the heavy weight of fondant. This keeps the sponge underneath soft and moist, ensuring the cake tastes just as good as it looks.
I started working with wafer paper because I wanted to move away from the rigid look of traditional sugar paste. My Ruffle Paper Collection is all about movement. By layering thin, translucent sheets of edible paper, I can mimic the look of silk, organza, or cascading flower petals.
Why choose a ruffle design?
- Modern Aesthetics: These cakes look structured and sophisticated, making them perfect for contemporary weddings or formal anniversary dinners in Mumbai and Bangalore.
- Complete Customization: Because the wafer paper can be tinted to match any color palette, I can blend the cake perfectly with your event decor. Whether you want a soft pastel ombré or a bold, monochromatic look, we can design it.
- Height and Drama: The lightweight nature of the material means we can build taller, more impressive tiers without the structural issues that often come with heavy icing.
My process
When we work on a ruffle design, I start with a consultation to understand your theme. I often sketch out the flow of the ruffles to ensure they complement the venue and the scale of your event. If you are hosting a large celebration, I can incorporate dummy tiers into the design to add height, while keeping the cutting portion delicious and fresh. These cakes are a labor of love, requiring precise hand-folding for every single ripple. If you have a vision for a specific fabric texture or a layered look you saw in a magazine, bring it to me, and we will find a way to recreate it in sugar and paper.

I'm always experimenting with new textures, and wafer paper is currently my favorite. It allows me to create movement and volume that traditional fondant just cannot achieve. When you choose a ruffle design, you are getting a centerpiece that feels as light as it tastes.
