About Tabla Instruction
I see Tabla not just as music, but as sadhana - a practice that goes way deeper than just learning beats. My journey began under my Guruji, Pandit Subhankar Banerjee ji, and every session I teach is my tribute to the Farukhabad Gharana, the tradition I was handed down.
What I Teach
- If you’re starting out, we’ll get into the basics: how to sit, hand positions, making each stroke (‘bol’) clear.
- We work through Tabla kaidas for beginners and gradually explore more complex pieces.
- For everyone, I focus on the compositions of Farukhabad Gharana tabla techniques, including works of legends like Ustad Allah Rakha Khan Sahab and my own Guruji.
- We dive into Teentaal and Jhaptaal lessons, experimenting with different rhythmic cycles and patterns.
How We Learn
- I offer online tabla workshop sessions, one-on-one lessons, and group classes.
- When I’m in Kolkata, I also teach in-person.
- No age bar - I work with anyone keen to learn, wherever you’re from.
Sometimes, the musician’s life feels hectic, but honestly, the real joy is watching someone nail a rhythm for the first time. Dhin dhin dha - that’s what keeps me going, and I’d love to share this journey with you.

My Story
Never thought I'd write this much, but that last trip hit different. Grew up in a middle-class home, holidays were like, out of syllabus. Used to dream of just chilling somewhere, no tabla, no worries. Life got busy, dreams took a backseat, only work and gigs. Thanks to one special person, I finally paused, took a breath. Now, when I'm not drumming, I'm a proud dog dad—sometimes trying (and failing!) to play Dhaak at Durga Pujo. Pujo vibe is unbeatable, maa kasam (I swear)!
My Work
Tabla Performance & Education - I play tabla for concerts, recordings, solo gigs, and teach—love passing on my Farukhabad Gharana style.
Rooted in Farukhabad Gharana - My guru was Pandit Shubhankar Banerjee. I honour him by sharing his music and compositions.
Collaboration in Classical & Fusion - Playing with vocalists, dancers, and fellow musicians—whether duet or fusion—always makes the music special.
Kathak Tabla Accompaniment - Recently started performing with Kathak dancers. It’s a new rhythm world, and I’m loving the challenge.
Music as Devotion - For me, every tabla solo concert or private event is a spiritual journey. I try to play with heart and soul.
