About My Musical Journey
When I teach, we don’t just memorize patterns. We focus on the nikas—the clarity of every single stroke and the placement of your fingers. Whether you are a total beginner trying to understand your first teentaal or an intermediate student struggling with the speed and precision of Farukhabad kaidas, I work with you to correct your hand angles and rhythm flow through dedicated one-on-one sessions.
A Life Dedicated to Sadhana
Growing up, music was my quiet escape. Now, as a professional tabla player trained in the Farukhabad Gharana, I see my role as both a performer and a custodian of this legacy passed down to me by my Guruji, Pandit Subhankar Banerjee.
The Learning Approach
I often get asked what makes a good student. It isn't about how fast you play; it’s about your commitment to the daily grind. In both my online and offline classes, we strip back the speed and focus on the bol (spoken rhythm). I see many students struggle with hand stiffness and tension, which ruins the tone. We fix that by adjusting how you sit and how you hold your wrists. My goal is to make the instrument feel like an extension of your own hand.
Collaborations and Performance
Recently, I’ve been collaborating with Kathak dancers. It is a completely different rhythm world. The theka has to breathe with the dancer's footwork and expression. This experience has deepened my own understanding of rhythm structures, and I bring these real-world insights into my teaching curriculum. Whether you are learning for personal satisfaction or aiming to perform, we cover the full spectrum.
