About Live Performances & On Set
When I am on stage, I am not just playing the Tabla; I am listening and responding to other musicians in real time. This live experience is exactly what I bring into the recording studio, making my session work more fluid and responsive to the needs of the track. If you are looking for a musician who understands how to hold the stage and support a vocalist, dancer, or instrumentalist, let's talk about your event requirements.
Bridging Stage and Studio
My time on stage, whether at a prestigious venue like the Barbican Centre or during a local concert, is an extension of my daily riyaz (practice). Many people think studio work and live performance are separate worlds, but for me, they are deeply connected. The pressure of a live audience and the spontaneity of improvising with a vocalist or Kathak dancer forces me to be sharp and adaptable—skills that are essential when we are tracking for a film score or an album.
My Approach to Live Performance
When I perform, my goal is to serve the music. I deeply respect the traditions of the Farukhabad Gharana, but I am also comfortable adapting to contemporary requirements.
- Accompaniment: I have extensive experience supporting vocalists, instrumentalists, and Kathak dancers. I focus on listening and filling the sonic space without overpowering the artist.
- Versatility: From traditional classical recitals to fusion setups involving other percussionists, I adjust my playing style to ensure the rhythm sits perfectly in the mix.
- Professionalism on Set: Having worked on various TV shoots and professional stages, I understand the technical side of the industry—mic placement, sound checks, and working closely with sound engineers to get the best tone.
Let's Collaborate
Whether you are organizing a private musical gathering, a formal concert, or need a Tabla player for a studio project, I am ready to bring the rhythm. I am based in Kolkata but travel across India for gigs and studio sessions. My approach is collaborative, and I am always open to discussing new ideas, whether you need a traditional solo or an experimental fusion track.
