For me, the tabla is a conversation, not just a beat. These sessions capture the riyaz and the solo moments where I explore the depth of the Farukhabad Gharana, one stroke at a time.

A humble attempt at playing a beautiful composition by the great Ustad Allah Rakha Khan sahab. This solo was recorded in a studio to capture the nuances of the tabla's sound.

An informal practice session, or 'jugalbandi', with sitarist Samanwaya Sarkar da. These moments of spontaneous creation are essential for building musical chemistry and exploring new ideas.

An impromptu 'riyaz' session with the brilliant sarod player Abhishek Lahiri. This is a glimpse into the daily practice that hones our skills and deepens our musical understanding.

A monsoon special, playing Raag Megh in Teentaal with santoor player Sandip Chatterjee. This studio jam session captures the mood of the season through the interplay of melody and rhythm.

A moment of deep focus during a live performance at the Malhar Festival. This is the meditative state I strive to achieve, whether on stage or in the studio.

A candid shot from a live concert, focused on the intricate movements of my hands on the tabla. My goal is always to produce a clear, resonant tone with every stroke.

A moment of quiet connection with my instrument during a performance. The tabla is more than just a drum; it is a voice that I use to express myself.

About The Art of Tabla: Solos & Practice

When I record a solo or sit down for practice, I focus on the precise balance between the Bayan (bass) and Dayan (treble) that defines my Gharana. Whether we are jamming for a film score or recording a solo piece, I ensure the raw WAV stems capture the natural resonance of the wood and skin, rather than just the rhythm.
