I have been deeply honoured to share the stage and studio with musicians who have shaped my musical journey. These collaborations are more than performances; they are moments of learning, rhythm, and mutual respect.

A moment of immense pride and gratitude, standing with the legendary Ustad Amjad Ali Khan sahab. To accompany him was a lifelong dream, and this opportunity was a true honour.

In conversation with the great Ustad Amjad Ali Khan sahab, absorbing his wisdom before a performance. These moments with a Sarod maestro are invaluable lessons in music and life.

Sharing a frame with the iconic Padmashree Shankar Mahadevan ji. His energy and musical genius are an inspiration, and it's an honour to be a part of the same musical fraternity.

With the legendary poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar sahab after our show "Anant". It was an unforgettable experience to provide the rhythmic backdrop for his powerful words.

A group photograph with Javed Akhtar sahab, Sangeeta Datta aunty, and Soumik Datta da. Being part of such a beautifully curated show involving poetry, song, and music is a true privilege.

A wonderful moment with the legendary bassist Keith Peters sir. Hearing his stories about recording for A.R. Rahman's iconic film scores was incredibly inspiring and a lesson in musical history.

With violin maestro Deepak Pandit ji and percussionist Sridar Parthasarathy ji. Collaborating with such versatile and accomplished artists is always a joy and a chance to create something special.

With Rupam Islam da, a voice that was part of my childhood. Meeting and sharing a space with artists who have shaped our musical landscape is always a special feeling.

With my Guruji, the late Pandit Shubhankar Banerjee. Everything I am is because of him. This picture represents the foundation of my musical journey and the guru-shishya parampara I hold sacred.

Standing with Sarangi Maestro Janab Sarwar Hussain Khan bhaiya after a recording for Akashvani. His mastery over the sarengi adds a deep soulfulness to any composition.

About Collaborations with Musical Legends

The magic of a collaboration lies in the conversation between instruments. When I accompany a vocalist or instrumentalist, my goal is not to take center stage, but to provide a rhythmic foundation that supports their melody. Whether it is live stage accompaniment or layering tabla tracks in a studio, I listen first, then respond.

Collaborating with artists requires a shift in mindset. It is not about solo prowess or proving one's speed; it is about humility and service to the composition. My training in the Farukhabad Gharana has taught me to value the space between beats as much as the bols themselves.

When I step onto a stage with maestros or enter a studio session, I focus on:

  • Deep Listening: Understanding the vocalist's or instrumentalist's intention.
  • Rhythmic Support: Choosing the right taals (Teentaal, Dadra, or Keherwa) that complement the melody without overshadowing it.
  • Adaptive Fusion: Bringing traditional structures into modern contexts, whether that means playing alongside a sarod maestro or blending with Western percussion.

I have been fortunate to share space with legends like Ustad Amjad Ali Khan sahab, Javed Akhtar sahab, and Shankar Mahadevan ji. Every session—from television broadcasts at Aakash Aath to live concerts in Chandigarh—is a masterclass in how music bridges generations and genres.

If you are a composer, a filmmaker, or a fellow musician looking for authentic tabla accompaniment for your album, film score, or live show, I bring this same respect and attention to detail. Let’s create something that honours the tradition while finding its own voice in the present.

I am a tabla player deeply rooted in the Farukhabad Gharana, guided by my Guruji, the late Pandit Shubhankar Banerjee. For me, music is a spiritual practice, and every collaboration is a chance to listen, learn, and contribute to a larger conversation through rhythm.
