We bring stories to life under the trees of Cubbon Park every Saturday. Join our circle for a morning of theatrical reading, music, movement, and messy sensory play for families.

This is the magic I live for. A moment of shared wonder as we dive into a story together, with little ones completely absorbed in the tale. Our outdoor storytelling sessions are all about creating these intimate, focused moments of connection.

It's not just about listening, it's about feeling the story! Here, we're using colorful scarves to dance and express ourselves, bringing the narrative to life through movement. This kind of sensory play is a core part of our immersive workshops in Cubbon Park.

A little glimpse into the beautiful, chaotic, and joyful world of Cubbon Tales. From songs and Santal stories to dancing and play, this is what our weekends look like. It’s a community where kids can be kids and stories come alive.

Our story circle is a community. This is a snapshot of the wonderful families who gather with us, sharing stories, laughter, and the simple joy of being outdoors together. Everyone, from kids to parents and grandparents, is a part of our tale.

Hands-on creativity is a huge part of our sessions. Here, the children are gathered around for a craft activity, exploring textures and colors. These moments of making things together are just as important as the stories themselves.

The simple, pure joy of chasing bubbles under the big trees of Cubbon Park. Our sessions always have room for spontaneous play, letting kids run, laugh, and just enjoy the freedom of being outdoors.

A snapshot of the two of us, Mallika and Ayushi, the storytellers behind Cubbon Tales. We are so grateful to have built this community and love bringing our passion for stories, art, and play to you every weekend.

We often host special events, like this meet-and-greet with author Aprajita Singh for her book 'Summers with Dadu'. These collaborations bring fresh voices to our circle and offer unique experiences for our little readers.

About Featured

When you join us at Cubbon Park, please know that your child doesn't need to sit perfectly still. Our sessions aren't just about reading; they are about embracing the messy, beautiful reality of childhood. Whether your little one wants to chase bubbles, dance with scarves, or just observe from a distance, we flow with the mood of the group, mixing theatrical narration with spontaneous play to make sure every story feels like a shared adventure.

Our Storytelling Philosophy

At Cubbon Tales, we believe in keeping the magic of Kahaani Puraani (old stories) alive while constantly weaving in fresh tales. We treat storytelling as an experience rather than a performance. By bringing in elements of music, movement, and sensory play, we help children connect with the narrative on a deeper level.

What to Expect at Our Sessions

  • Theatrical Reading: We don't just read books. We act them out using voice modulation, puppets, and props, turning classic and contemporary children's books into engaging performances.
  • Sensory & Creative Play: From bubble blowing and leaf collecting to simple paper-based crafts, we incorporate hands-on activities that let kids explore textures and colors outdoors.
  • Movement & Music: We encourage the 'wiggles.' Expect guided action songs, dance steps, and plenty of room for kids to run around the green, open spaces of the park.

A Space for Everyone

Our circle is not just for kids; it is for parents, grandparents, and caregivers too. It is a space to breathe in the fresh air, meet other families, and take a break from the fast pace of city life. We often host special guest storytellers, authors, and artists, bringing new perspectives and unique creative workshops like origami or painting into the mix.

Practical Details

Sessions last roughly 60 minutes and take place outdoors. We provide the mats, but sitting on the grass is always encouraged. Please bring your enthusiasm and be ready for a bit of chaos—it is part of the charm. Check our schedule for specific themes, ranging from festival celebrations to nature-focused adventures.

I'm Mallika, and this is my passion project turned community. I started this with my son and a mat, simply wanting to keep the joy of stories alive, and now, my friend Ayushi and I host these weekends to create a space where kids and parents can just be themselves.
