Every weekend under the trees, we turn pages into adventures. Here are the tales that have sparked giggles, curiosity, and big feelings in our circle.

The cover of 'Summers with Dadu' by Aprajita Singh. A beautiful book about memories, emotions, and the eternal love between a child and a grandparent.

The vibrant cover of 'Lakshmi's Little Bird' by Sharanya Kunnath. This story of acceptance was a perfect fit for our 'Feeling all Feelings' month.

The books 'Angry Akku' and its Hindi version. We use stories like these to help children understand and navigate complex emotions like anger in a healthy way.

Two childhood favorites, 'Gajapati Kulapati' and 'Monkey Puzzle'. These classic, funny, and heartwarming stories are always a hit with our little audience.

'Not Yet!' and 'The Runaway Peacock', two lovely stories that capture the beautiful imagination of children. Perfect for our Children's Day celebration.

A close-up of the book 'Kahaani Puraani'. This book retells ancient Indian tales in a way that is accessible and delightful for young children.

'Earth rests on a Tortoise' and 'We come from the Geese', two Santal creation stories. We love exploring indigenous folklore and diverse cultural narratives.

A collection of books that challenge gender stereotypes, like 'Asha the Auto-Driver' and 'There's Coriander in my Sugar Pot!'. We believe in choosing stories with powerful, inclusive messages.

'Exam Fever' and 'Goal!', two inspiring stories from Pratham Books that we read for International Literacy Day. They highlight resilience and the pursuit of dreams against all odds.

A collection of books for our 'Stories on Courage' session, including the classic 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and 'Kalpana's Cycle'.

About A Peek at Our Bookshelf

When you see these book covers, know that we don't just sit and read. We turn every page into an interactive performance using music, puppets, and plenty of movement. Whether we are navigating big emotions with Angry Akku or exploring folklore with Kahaani Puraani, every session is designed to make the story jump off the page and into the hearts of the children at our regular spot under Tree 2763.

Our selection is intentional. We prioritize books that reflect the diverse Indian childhood experience—from Pratham Books classics that challenge gender stereotypes to indigenous creation stories from the Santal community.

We move beyond the text to build connections. A session might start with a quiet reading, but it quickly evolves into a 'wiggle break' with action songs, sensory play with leaves and sticks, or even a craft activity to help children process the themes.

Why this matters:

  • Empathy: Books like Angry Akku help little ones understand that feeling frustration is normal.
  • Culture: We celebrate festivals and traditions through storytelling to keep our roots alive.
  • Resilience: We choose stories that show protagonists overcoming challenges, teaching kids that failure is just a part of the journey.

We embrace the reality of outdoor storytelling. If a child decides to run around or a story gets interrupted by a toddler's enthusiasm, we roll with it. The goal isn't perfect recitation; it's creating a space where families can breathe, listen, and connect in the middle of Bengaluru's busy life.

Cubbon Tales

We started Cubbon Tales with just a mat, a few props, and a desire to share the joy of reading. Now, we’ve grown into a community that meets every Saturday to make stories come alive—sometimes with music, sometimes with joyful chaos, but always with heart.
