Guest Storytelling & Art Workshops in Cubbon Park
We believe stories are meant to be shared, and sometimes, the best stories come from the friends we invite to join our circle under the trees.
Our poster for a special storytelling and origami workshop with author-illustrator Sharanya Kunnath and Cubbon Folds. These collaborations make our sessions extra special.
The announcement for our 'Feeling all Feelings' series, which featured collaborations with guest artists to explore emotions through stories and art.
The poster for our 'Stories on Culture and Festivities' series, where we often partner with guest storytellers to explore diverse traditions and tales.
An event poster for our 'Battling Stereotypes' session, featuring a guest storyteller and expressive arts facilitator. We love bringing in experts to enrich our programs.
Our 'One Day, One Story' banner for our collaboration with Pratham Books. Partnering with such organizations helps us bring quality literature to more children.
A parent from our community reads 'Luna Loves Dance' to the group. We encourage and welcome parents to step in and share their favorite stories.
Another shot of our guest parent-storyteller captivating the little ones. It's wonderful to see the community itself become part of the storytelling.
The poster for our 'Delectable July' series, where we read stories about food and culture, sometimes featuring guest readers who share their culinary tales.
Our poster for 'A Bounty of Chillies', a session that was part of our food-themed month, which often includes collaborations with food experts or authors.
The announcement for our 'My Grandmother Can't Cook' reading, which also teased a surprise little storyteller from our own community.
About Our Circle of Friends: Guest Authors & Artists
When we host guest authors or artists, the energy on our mats changes completely. It is not just about listening to a book; it is about meeting the person who imagined the characters or learning how to fold paper into the shapes we see in the illustrations. These sessions let our community see that stories are real, living things they can touch and create themselves, whether it is through an expressive art workshop or a live reading.
Our circle at Cubbon Tales is deeply rooted in the idea of shared learning. While I love narrating the tales that mean so much to my own family, there is a unique magic that happens when we bring in an expert to lead the way.
Why We Collaborate
We don't just pick guests at random. We look for creators—authors, illustrators, and art facilitators—whose work aligns with our ethos of inclusivity, curiosity, and kindness. Whether it is partnering with Pratham Books to explore gender stereotypes or having a guest author bring a book to life through dramatic reading, these collaborations offer our children a glimpse into the creative process.
What to Expect
These aren't static lectures. Because we are outdoors in the park, our guest sessions are just as dynamic as our regular ones.
- Hands-on Learning: Expect workshops that go beyond the book, like origami sessions or expressive art activities that help kids process their emotions.
- Direct Interaction: The best part is the Q&A. Seeing a child ask an author how they came up with a character's name is the kind of 'a-ha' moment we live for.
- Community Growth: We often invite parents to step in as storytellers too. It proves to the little ones that reading isn't just something professional adults do—it's something we can all do.
Our 'Kahaani Puraani' (stories of old) often get a fresh coat of paint when a guest storyteller brings their own perspective. We aim to keep these sessions accessible and diverse, ensuring that every weekend under the canopy offers a new lens through which to see the world.
Cubbon Tales
I am Mallika, and I started Cubbon Tales with a simple mat and a handful of stories. I love bringing in guest storytellers and artists because seeing our community light up when an author walks onto our 'stage' under the trees is pure magic. We learn just as much from them as the kids do.
