An intern reflects on her four-month journey with us, sharing how she gained more knowledge than she expected and received recognition for her work, inspiring her to pursue a future in natural dyeing.

"I want to do something that has an impact." An intern shares her diary, describing the magical, homely atmosphere at Color Ashram and how she's learning dyeing, printing, and embroidery to create meaningful work.

An NID design student shares her internship experience. She was looking for a studio to incorporate natural dyes into product design and found the perfect opportunity and a welcoming environment with us.

We take internships seriously, providing a real-world learning experience. This video celebrates an intern's four-month project, a hand-painted menswear collection based on the human relationship with water.

A young fashion designer from our 10-day intensive training shares how the program gave her the confidence to experiment with natural dyes for her own practice and start-up brand.

A former intern, who was instrumental during our move to Mysore, is now building her own natural dye lifestyle brand. It is heartwarming to see our students grow and continue their journey with sustainability.

About this collection

We do not believe in passive observation or repetitive office tasks. If you join us for an internship or a masterclass, you are stepping into a fully functional, working studio. You will get your hands stained, handle raw materials, and grapple with the chemistry of natural dyeing in real-time, because the only way to truly understand sustainable textiles is to actually do the dyeing yourself.

Our advanced programs are designed for those who want to move beyond surface-level techniques. Whether you are an NID/NIFT student looking for a meaningful graduation project or an entrepreneur wanting to switch your brand to sustainable production, we offer a pathway to build deep technical expertise.

The Reality of Our Training

We focus heavily on fiber science, mordant chemistry, and the lifecycle of natural colors. In our 2-day Masterclass or longer intensive training, you will not just follow recipes. We teach you how to analyze fibers, understand how metallic salts and tannins interact with different fabrics, and how to troubleshoot colors. This is technical, science-backed learning meant for those who intend to build a practice or business around natural textiles.

Our Internship Philosophy

We take internships seriously. This is why we have a strict vetting process. We are looking for people who are genuinely bothered by the impact of the fast fashion industry and are looking to be part of the solution. Our interns work on live client projects, assisting with custom dyeing, upcycling, and small-batch production. You will be expected to work with the same intent and curiosity as our core team.

Why Choose This Path?

  • Zero-Tox Focus: Learn to replace toxic industry chemicals with safe, plant-based alternatives.
  • Real-World Application: Work on actual collections, not just theoretical samples.
  • Mentorship: Get direct guidance on scaling your own natural dye brand.
  • Collaborative Environment: Engage with a community of designers, artists, and travellers passing through our studio in Hebbal.
