About this collection
Our sessions go beyond simple crafts; we treat them as immersive learning journeys for young minds. When your child joins us, they aren't just painting—they are foraging for local plant pigments, grinding ingredients, and understanding how mordants and heat interact to create stable colors. Expect messy hands, curious questions about where color comes from, and a finished piece they made entirely on their own using safe, plant-based materials.
Why Natural Dyeing for Kids?
In a world of synthetic, mass-produced clothing, we believe it is vital for children to understand the origins of what they wear. Our workshops for kids and families are designed to be tactile, sensory experiences that connect them directly to the environment.
The Learning Experience
We tailor our sessions to be age-appropriate and engaging for children aged 5 and up. Whether it is a homeschooler group diving into the fiber science of indigo or a family enjoying a weekend session of block printing, the focus remains on inquiry and discovery.
- Experiential Learning: We move through the process of fiber preparation, pigment extraction, and dyeing. This integrates lessons in math (measuring dye baths), science (ph levels and color chemistry), and art.
- Safe for Everyone: All our materials are non-toxic, derived from flowers, roots, and leaves. You never have to worry about skin irritation or chemical exposure, making it a stress-free environment for parents.
- Small Groups: To ensure every child gets guidance and personalized attention, we keep our group sizes limited.
We regularly host specific events for homeschooling collectives in Mysore and Bengaluru, often exploring seasonal plant cycles or celebrating ecology-focused days like Earth Day. We encourage parents to get involved as well, as these are often shared moments of learning. If you have a group of young learners or are a parent seeking an authentic, outdoor-centric creative outlet, reach out to discuss a session that aligns with your educational goals.
Color Ashram
I'm Namrata, and along with Arun, I started Color Ashram to bring the joy of natural color back to everyday life. We believe the best way for kids to understand the world is to get their hands dirty, forage for plants, and see firsthand that color can be kind to both the skin and the earth.
